Why is my Android showing old Facebook status updates for my contacts when I dial them? And how do I get it to show the most recent status update for the contact I’m dialing? Is it a issue with Facebook or as I suspect an issue with the Android? Thank you.

You need to regularly synchronize your phone with facebook.

Go to Settings -> Account and Sync, and synchronize accordingly!
