As you prior responder indicated, ME or EE degree.
There are programs out there in robotics technology that are less demanding and more “hands on”, but the pay and responsibilities tend to drop off with the reduction in inital training.
Some subjects required for an understanding of robotics include Control Systems, Mechatronics, and multi-body dynamics, and machine design. A lot of schools have good programs in robotics and post thier cirriculums on line. Look at Cal-Tech, Carnegie Mellon, and perhaps a local state school. There are also programs such as First Robotics and various things set up by the professional engineeing organizations, ASME & IEEE.
