Third X-51A WaveRider test fails, casts doubt on future of hypersonic missile

The US Air Force & rsquo; s Mach 5 missile program suffered a significant blow this week as its 3rd flight test of the X– 51A Waverider ended in failure. The test was suggested to be a 300-second scramjet-powered flight over the Pacific Ocean, however just 15 seconds after it detached from the B– 52 Stratofortress carrying it to 50,000 feet, a defective cruiser fin left the shark-shaped cruise missile uncontrollable, delivering it careening into the sea. The failure was initially stated by Danger Space.
