Pharmaceutical chain Walgreens has actually started deal with exactly what it calls America’s first “zero energy” superstore. Its Evanston store, found some 20 miles far from its headquarters, will utilize even more than 800 solar panels, 2 wind turbines, and geothermal energy to– it hopes– offer sufficient energy to try to keep the store running without extra power from the grid. Walgreens is fairly positive it could quickly reach that goal; it states that its renewable resource sources can generate 256,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity every year, and approximates its store will utilize simply 200,000 kWh. It does emphasize that both those figures are just estimates– weather will play a large part in both energy demands and output.

Insert Coin semifinalist Hodu is a 'zero failure' physical therapy hardware software combo

The barbell-shaped device is a “absolutely no failure” physical treatment tool, aimed at satisfying clients for even the tiniest level of feedback. There are on-board pressure sensors and accelerometers for spotting activity and a series of colored LEDs that brighten based upon feedback levels. Zero Motorcycle releases app for iOS and Android with customizable dashboard

DNP Zero Motorcycle releases app for iOS and Android

If you’re a loyal Zero Motorcycle owner — even after a few unfortunate recalls by the electric bike maker — you’re about to be rewarded for your dedication. The Santa Cruz-based firm has just released an app for both iOS and Android that provides a customizable riding dashboard along with valuable statistical data about your vehicle. You can change the dashboard so it displays percentage state of charge, torque, drivetrain component temperatures, battery amps and more during Riding Mode, and after the ride’s over you can flip over to Statistics Mode to get stats like how much gas money you might’ve wasted if you weren’t riding a Zero. If you don’t have one, you can still play with the app in Demo mode just to see how it works. The app pairs with the bike over Bluetooth and is available for free from both the App Store and Google Play.

Zero Motorcycles Releases First Ever Motorcycle iPhone and Android App
— New Mobile Application Allows Riders to Customize Motorcycle Performance –

PR Newswire
SANTA CRUZ, Calif., Feb. 19, 2013
SANTA CRUZ, Calif., Feb. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Zero Motorcycles, the global leader in the electric motorcycle industry, today announced the release of its highly anticipated mobile application for Apple iOS and Android devices. The “Zero Motorcycles” app is the world’s first mobile application with the ability to control the performance characteristics of a production motorcycle. Connected via Bluetooth, the motorcycle pushes live, or archived, information from the motorcycle to the app on the rider’s mobile device. Featuring two basic modes, the app displays either a customizable riding dashboard or statistical data about the motorcycle. Riders can customize the riding dashboard with options such as percentage state of charge, torque, drivetrain component temperatures, battery amps and more. When parked, owners can view a lifetime of information about the motorcycle and have access to compelling statistics such as how much gas money they have saved.

“The Zero Motorcycles app marks the first time in history that a production motorcycle’s top speed, torque and regenerative braking can be easily adjusted by an owner in seconds. Not only is it fun, it also results in a riding experience that is truly customized to meet the unique needs of every individual,” said Scot Harden, Vice President of Marketing for Zero Motorcycles. “We encourage interested fans to download the app, play with it in Demo Mode and then schedule a test ride with their local dealer so that they can truly appreciate the Zero Motorcycles experience.”

Once paired to a motorcycle, owners can begin customizing settings and feeling good about a host of compelling economical and ecological reasons to ride electric everyday. Among the customizable settings are fields to enter the owner’s cost of electricity, cost of a gallon of gas and the miles per gallon of their alternative vehicle. To bring a little extra joy to every ride, the app uses this information to calculate statistics, such as how much money has been saved on gas, the unbelievably low cost of energy consumed per mile and how much CO2 has been prevented from being released into the atmosphere.

The entire 2013 Zero Motorcycles lineup features the ability to connect to each motorcycle’s cutting edge Z-ForceTM powertrain. Seamlessly integrated into the powertrain, the app also allows owners to send their motorcycle’s diagnostic reports to a technician so that it can be quickly and easily reviewed. A fantastic deal for owners, there is no additional cost for any of this functionality and the Zero Motorcycles app is free. More information, a user guide and answers to frequently asked questions are available on the Zero Motorcycles mobile app webpage. The app can be downloaded at:

I Have Zero: Advanced Boyfriend Achievement Badges

boyfriend-badges.jpg

Remember the first series of boyfriend achievement badges created by Etsy seller BoyfriendBadges? Well now there’s an advanced achievement set for when your relationship gets even seriouser. “Seriouser isn’t a word.” But you knew what I meant? “Yes.” Soooo… “But you’re butchering the language.” Please, text-talking killed it, not me. If anything I’m trying to hump it back from the brink of extinction.

This set includes (from top left to bottom right): Road Trip Survival, Close Encounters with the Ungroomed Kind, Forget and Forgive, Conquista-Drawer, Key Swap, and Open Door Policy.

I’m not really sure what ‘Close Encounters with the Ungroomed Kind’ is supposed to mean, but from the look of the badge it means you turned into a werewolf. An important stage in any relationship.

Thanks to Mark, who agrees the Open Door Policy for the bathroom should not exist because that’s nasty and can be a relationship ruiner.

Bin Laden movie ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ slammed by senators for ‘grossly inaccurate’ torture scenes

Photo

Members of the Senate have called Zero Dark Thirty, Academy Award-winning director Kathryn Bigalow’s Bin Laden movie, “grossly inaccurate” in its portrayal of US-sanctioned torture. In a letter to Sony Pictures Entertainment, Diane Feinstein (D-CA), Carl Levin (D-MI) and John McCain (R-AZ) said the movie was a “deep disappointment,” labeling it “misleading in its suggestion that torture resulted in information that led to the location” of the Al Qaeda leader.

People who see ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ will believe that the events it portrays are facts.”

Zero Dark Thirty is labelled as a fictitious work, but opens with a note claiming it’s based on first-hand accounts of actual events, which the senators argue blurs the lines between fact and…

Columbia announces OmniFreeze ZERO, a tshirt that cools you down

Columbia is announcing the Omni-Freeze ZERO, a range of sports gear that cools you the more you sweat. Blue rings of cooling polymer cover the garments, which swell when exposed to moisture — letting air pass around you as if you had goosebumps. Unlike typical compression garments, which wick the sweat away from you, this puts your natural resources to good use, so much so that the company believes it’s cooler than taking your top off entirely. The futuristic gear will also turn up in a new range of footwear, but before you can get too excited, there’s a catch; it isn’t due to hit stores until next year, so you’ve still got a few months of getting sweaty.

Zero Motorcycles will pay for your first 25,000 e-motorbike miles, wants you to ride guilt-free

Zero DS

If you’ve been staring lustfully at an electric motorcycle but needed that little extra push to make the jump, Zero Motorcycles has a unique incentive in store: it’ll pay for your first 25,000 miles on the road. Should you take the keys to any one of the company’s two-wheelers between now and the end of May, you’ll get a Visa gift card for the amount within a few weeks. Of course, the reason it can make such a seemingly generous offer is through the sheer efficiency of an electric engine: at a typical 10 cents for every kilowatt-hour, you’re looking at just under $ 200 for what’s likely several months or more of driving, even if you’re particularly enthusiastic. Knowing that riding the same amount with a gas-powered bike practically requires taking out a small mortgage in the current economy, though, we’d say that Zero is just reminding us of an an advantage e-motorbikes already have.
