Velocity Micro unveils three new NoteMagix Ultrabooks for $800 and up

Velocity Micro unveils three new NoteMagix Ultrabooks for $ 800 and up

Velocity Micro is refreshing its NoteMagix line of notebooks with three 14-inch Ultrabooks: the U430, U450 and U470. These designs aren’t the thinnest equipments in their category– the aluminum design ideas in at 4 pounds– however all three have adequate space for a DVD drive. All three designs additionally feature a 14-inch show with a resolution of 1,366 x 768– and, especially, none of them come with bloatware. Other specs include a 1.3-MP web cam, incorporated Intel HD 4000 Graphics and a ranked battery life of 6 hours.

The $ 800 NoteMagix U430 is the entry-level model, with a Center i3 CPU, 4GB of RAM, and a 500GB difficult drive spinning at 5,400 Revoltions Per Minute. The $ 900 U450 steps up to a Core i5 processor and a 120GB SSD, while the $ 1,100 U470 runs a Center i7 chip with 240GB of solid-state storage space. The Ultrabooks are readily available now with Speed Micro’s website– look into the source link for a closer appearance.

Velocity Micro announces 236inch Edge allinone, begins shipping this December

If you were blasting the Springsteen previously, you could as well keep it cranked. Velocity Micro’s joining the “Constructed in the UNITED STATE” party and the Windows 8 brigade with its new Edge AIO. The 23.6-inch all-in-one is available in a cleaned aluminum frame, loading a 1,920 x 1,080 LED display, 720p front facer, SD slot, ports for HDMI out and USB 3.0, as well as support for WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth. The basic model is set to retail for $ 799, but expect that rate to climb up once you consider a host of readily available setups: your selection of Intel’s Core i3/i5/i7 processors, a max of 8GB DDR3 RAM, HDD or SSD storage options that top at 2TB and 240GB, respectively, along with House and Pro editions of Windows 7 and 8. Orders for the homegrown rig are anticipated to start shipping as early as following week. Struck up the break for the associated PR.

Larry Page looks back at a year at the head of Google, promises velocity, execution and focus in the futureA year and a day after taking over the reins at Mountain View, Google co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Larry Page has plenty to say about where the company has been recently, and where it’s going. While there aren’t any Project Glass bombs dropped, in this open letter he’s promising a Google that will achieve even more, and faster, as it goes forward. First, a spoiler alert: he really likes Google’s products. From Google+, to tighter integration with results for things like weather and airfare to that little Android side project there’s plenty of praise to go around. One of the longest segments is dedicated to the “love and trust” Google desires to deserve from its users, mentioning that creating “a much better, more intuitive experience across Google” is a focus for 2012. OWC Mercury Aura Pro Express SATA 3.0 SSDs doubles your (MacBook) Airspeed velocity

It’s MacWorld, which means those providers of Apple gear are busting out wares for aftermarket insertion into your objects of desire. Other World Computing’s latest offering is a slender solid-state drive ready to be crow-barred into last year’s MacBook Airs. The bombastically named OWC Mercury Aura Pro Express 6G SSD is a SATA Rev. 3.0 drive with a promised 6GB/s data speed at sizes of up to 480GB. Since the stock drives are limited to the 3GB/s SATA Rev. 2.0 (but the controllers run 3.0), you should find a significant performance bump when swapping in the new unit. The toggle-synchronous NAND drives come in a variety of sizes from 120GB ($ 260) all the way to 480GB ($ 1,150), but you’ll get a three-year warranty for all that cash. We may never give you our money, nor our funny pages, but you can have the press release that’s after the break.

Velocity Micro Shows Its New Tablets And Pico Projector Before CES

velo

While many big companies are putting on big press conferences next week at CES, many smaller ones are getting their new gadgets out there early so people will want to drop by their booth. Velocity Micro just dropped a few new things, and we’ll be sure to swing by their corner of the show if we’re in the area.

They’ve got a pair of budget tablets that won’t really blow anyone away, but their new Shine pico projector looks really nice.

The tablets are the 7″ Cruz T507 and the 9.7″ T510. The latter, it is worth noting, has a 4:3 aspect ratio and appears to be very iPad-ish. Not very original, I’m afraid. The 7″ one is widescreen – and that’s about the only thing between them that differs. They both have a 1.2GHz Arm A8 processor, 8GB of internal storage, HDMI out, and a few other little features. Both run Android 4.0, mercifully. Any tablets at CES that don’t are plain crazy. Strangely enough, neither has Market access – just the Amazon market. The T507 will go for $ 150, and the larger T510 will naturally be a bit more expensive, though no price has been mentioned just yet. More info here.

Then there’s the Shine, a small projector that’s certainly bigger than the early, ~20-lumen pico-projectors, but definitely smaller than the loud, hot, 1000-lumen “real” projectors. The Shine does 300 lumens at a resolution of 1280×768, which means you can do HD content on a fairly large screen, and not just in the pitch dark like weaker pocket projectors. They’re also claiming good color and contrast, which of course I’ll believe when I see it.

I like its unapologetically gadgety look, with the bright red and the grills. Not as tasteful as 3M’s stuff, but not as boring as some others I’ve seen. Price? “Under $ 400,” which sounds to me like $ 399. But we’ll see.

Then there’s the little VMUltra drive – optical drive, 500GB of storage, and a few USB hubs to boot. Very handy for the mobile gadgeteer, perhaps the perfect accessory for someone moving to an ultrabook or MacBook Air.

Like I said, we’ll try to drop by and get a feel for these gadgets when we’re down in Vegas. No promises! But we’ll definitely be reviewing one or more of them, so stay tuned.

Velocity Micro Cruz T408 review

It’s no secret that the market for Android tablets is crowded – and getting more so every day. Just ask Samsung, Acer, HTC, Huawei, Lenovo, Pandigital and, oh yes, Verticool. We could keep going, but you get the point: it’s a big market out there, one with wildly varying prices and features. And just recently a little company called Amazon made its move in a big way with the Kindle Fire, an Android-powered $ 199 portal to its corner of the cloud. The world’s largest online retailer clearly thinks competing on price is a way to stand out from the pack. Velocity Micro, maker of the 8-inch Cruz T408, wholeheartedly agrees. It’s coming to market with a $ 199 slate, hoping to capture some attention of its own. Can it succeed? Read on to find out.

Velocity Micro Gets Competitive, Drops The Price Of The 8-inch T408 Android Tablet To $199

Velocity-Micro-Cruz-T408

Velocity Micro launched the $ 240 8-inch T408 Android 2.2 tablet on September 7th. Amazon announced the $ 199 Kindle Fire two weeks later. But Velocity Micro isn’t going down without a fight. The company just sent over a note indicating that the T408 now costs just $ 199. It’s no doubt a smart move, but that’s where it should have been priced initially.

Velocity Micro sent over both of their new models and I rather like the small Android 2.2 tab. But they were a tough sell at their initial MSRP price of $ 240 for the 8-inch and $ 299 for the 10-inch. These aren’t iPad killers, but rather enthusiast tablets for the Android crowd. They’re cheap and lack the native Google apps. But they’re quick, thin and completely unlocked for all sorts of modding tomfoolery.

A quick Google search shows that retailers including Velocity Micro’s own website apparently didn’t get the memo yet. But the price cut is real. Look for it in the coming days.

An average consumer will still likely opt for the Fire or next-gen Nook Color. That’s fine. This tablet isn’t really for your mom. But if you have a folder of ROMs, XDA-dev set as your homepage, or flame every MG Siegler post, you should take a serious look at the T408. Look for our full review in the coming days.
