Apple’s Ping hits 1 million users in 48 hours

src="http://www.slipperybrick.com/index.php?feedimage=wp-content/uploads/2010/09/ap3_370x278.jpg" alt="" title="Apple's Ping hits 1 million users in 48 hours" width="500" height="376" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-52083" />Apple has already hit a milestone as it has reached over one million users of Ping within the first 48 hours of its going online. That’s a third of the three million that have downloaded iTunes 10. You can expect that number to grow much higher, as “many more people” are likely to download iTunes.

The adoption is very rapid and is helped tremendously by Apple’s existing user base of course. With over 160 million iTunes owners using credit cards and so are guaranteed to be attached to an Apple ID, Ping will require very little effort to get a large portion of those users online.

It will be interesting to see how it grows.

windows 7 users, help please :)?

ahhah i’ve got an wierd request :)

Cutting a LONG story short, my laptop needed reinstalling, (i had one major virus that deleted most of my system files, so the laptop didn’t work) but the shop i bought the laptop from made a cock-up: I was supposed to have windows 7, but instead they gave me windows vista pre-installed (& £20 money back) AND then forgot to ship the windows vista discs with my laptop. So i phoned them and they said sorry blahblah, we’ll send the vista discs, and they’ll be with you in 14 days.

This was a few weeks ago, and in the meantime while i was waithing for the discs, my friend let me use his copy of windows 7 on my laptop, and i’ve fallen in love with it lol. Obviously the discs have came now, and i’ve reinstalled vista on my laptop :) I miss so many of the features on windows 7, and i would have kept it if it wern’t for the ‘windows 7 is not genuine’ message. (apparently you can only install it on one computer, and i don’t want to feel like a pirater :/)

But yeah onto my question, there was this background that i LOVE and it was already on windows 7 (one of the default backgrounds) … ahh i can’t remember it too fully but it was pink/orange (a sunset kinda thing) and it had loads of rocks at the bottom. I think i was under the ‘united kindom’ section, but i’m not 100% sure :)

I was wondering if you could find the background on your computer, and upload it to photobucket or something for me? pretty pleasee? ;)

Thanks thanks & thanks if you can help :) :) x x x x x x

Windows 7 help, for more advanced users?

Okay, I have a big one for you guys. I bought a Dell Inspiron with Windows 7 on it yesterday. During the set tp, it asked for my wireless security key, which my stepdad had locked away. So I pressed “skip”, figuring I could set up my wireless when he got home. Wrong. I spent 2 hours on the phone with AT&T, then an hour on the phone with the Geek Squad, and they didn’t know how to fix it, because no matter what, I could’nt connect to my network. I can connect to my neighbors that don’t have passwords, though. So, I though I would be smart and just re-install Windows. I did so, and entered my wireless key in. It signed me onto my desktop, and I had internet. BUT I have two different things on my computer now–the original windows without wireless, and now the new windows with wireless titled “RECOVERY”. And it says I have barley any disk space left and won’t let me install anything.

Any advice would be of GREAT help.

FCC cracks open Sony’s Xperia X8, posts user’s manual and revealing photos

Sure, that Xperia X8 in the picture may look demure, but the FCC doesn’t mess around — mere seconds after we found this shot of the 3-inch, Android 1.6 handset, we stumbled across a PDF showing the phone in — ahem — various states of dress. Now, we try to run a clean site here, so you’ll have to hit our source link to find those salacious pics (and manual) yourself, but if you want some nice, tasteful shots of the device’s exterior and ports you’ll find them immediately below. No new specs here, by the way — it’s the same quad-band GSM HSPA handset with WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, A-GPS and FM radio we’ve seen before.

Apple attempts to patent kill switch that roots out unauthorized users, detects jailbreaks

Just about every mobile operating system manufacturer can remotely delete apps from the smartphones they help provide, but if a recent patent application is any indication, Apple’s looking to lock down the whole enchilada on future devices. The basic concept is as simple as the diagram above — certain activities trigger the phone to think it’s in the wrong hands — but the particular activities and particular remedies Apple suggests extend to audiovisual spying (to detect if a user has a different face or voice than the owner), heartbeat monitoring and complete remote shutdown. While the patent mostly sounds targeted at opt-in security software and would simply send you an alert or perform a remote wipe if your phone were stolen or hacked, jailbreaking and unlocking are also explicitly mentioned as the marks of an unauthorized user, and one line mentions that cellular carriers could shut down or cripple a device when such a user is detected. Sounds great for securing phones at retail, sure, but personally we’re plenty happy with the existing Find My iPhone app.

Dubious Study: Android users are dirty, dirty cheaters

Remember that “study” from a few weeks back indicating that iPhone users are having more sexy-time than the rest of their smartphone carrying counterparts? Well, it turns out that they may just be having more of the sort of sexy-times that one would generally admit.

In an equally-quoted-for-sarcasm “study” from AshleyMadison.com (the entire purpose of which is to arrange affairs for married people), the “facts” are in: Android users just seem to love to get their cheat on.

Sling says it’s fixed ‘many’ of the problems affecting users, still has more work to do

Sling said on Friday that it was working on fixing the array of issues plaguing its streaming service, and it now says that it’s made some changes that “seem to have addressed many of the problems.” Speaking with Crave, a Sling spokesperson further added that the issues “were the result of a data migration process that, while carefully planned for a long time, still had a number of unexpected problems.” The spokesperson went on to note that while things have gotten better over the last 24 hours, “they aren’t nearly good enough for everyone yet” — something confirmed by a number of Sling users who are continuing to report problems on the official support forums today. So hang in there — things are getting better, slowly.
