T-Mobile and MetroPCS merger finalized, company to begin trading as ‘T-Mobile US’

T-Mobile and MetroPCS have successfully closed the merger both wireless carriers set out on last year. Confirmed in the newly-merged company’s fact sheet and investor page, the deal pairs T-Mobile USA’s 34 million subscribers with the near 9 million tallied by MetroPCS. The Associated Press first reported that the merger was likely to close today, and both company’s investor pages confirm the new company will trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol TMUS.
The joined entity will operate under the T-Mobile brand, with plans for MetroPCS customers to be migrated over to T-Mobile’s network by 2015. Once that’s done, the spectrum previously devoted to MetroPCS’ CDMA network will be repurposed to help build out T-Mobile’s…

If widespread rumors hold true, the coming weeks will see two of the most successful tablet vendors invade each other’s screen size turf. Apple, which once rebuked the 7-inch tablet as unfit for normally proportioned human hands, appears ready to try its own hand at an iPad rumored to be on the larger side of the 7- to 8-inch range. Amazon, which lagged its bookselling rival Barnes & Noble in bringing out a color tablet, stands ready to introduce an infernal successor to the Kindle Fire that may include a display that is close to 9-inches or larger.
It’s not quite the first ride along the screen size escalator for either company. For Apple, a smaller iPad would fill in the iOS screen size gap between the iPhone and iPad. For Amazon, also rumored to be working on a phone, a larger color tablet would revisit the ground it explored to lackluster results with the Kindle DX. That product hasn’t kept up with even e-paper-based e-readers with advances such as touchscreens and side-lighting, both of which are found in the latest Nook Simple Nook.

UK’s Office of Fair Trading to investigate Facebook’s Instagram buyout

The UK’s Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is launching an investigation into Facebook’s billion dollar purchase of Instagram citing fair competition concerns, The Guardian reports. The OFT is looking into whether Facebook’s buyout of Instagram may result in the photo app being restricted from uploading photos to other sites, apps, or services, but must first determine whether or not the deal falls under the office’s jurisdiction. Facebook must release its UK revenues and its share of the UK photo upload market before the OFT can determine if the deal would form a company large enough to be evaluated according to the 2002 Enterprise Act.

They’re 3D Printer trading cards featuring some of the best 3D printers in the world. You got your Makerbot Replicator, your UP! Printer, and your Printrbot Plus. You got stats on there, a little trivia, some pricing information and then you can trade with your friends (“Awwww man, I need that Reprap clone!”)
You can check them all out here or see them in person at Maker Faire in SF this week. Sadly, they’re not actually printing these things but if they did I’d totally buy a pack.
