NASA to live stream peak of Eta Aquarid meteor shower tonight starting at 9PM EST

It’s that time of year again: the Eta Aquarid meteor shower is scheduled to peak tonight through tomorrow morning, and NASA will be live streaming the annual celestial spectacle beginning at 9PM. Astronomer Bill Cooke will be on hand taking questions from webcast viewers. For those who prefer to catch a glimpse in person, the space agency says (as usual) that your best bet is traveling someplace far removed from bright city lights. The shower will continue through dawn, with NASA expecting between 40 and 60 meteors per hour “under ideal conditions.” The Eta Aquarid meteor shower occurs each year as the Earth passes through the debris of Halley’s Comet, often resulting in fireballs and other mesmerizing visuals.

Hammerstein Ballroom may be known for its long history as a concert venue, but tonight Sony’s taking over to unveil the PlayStation … something. All signs point to a reveal of the game console we’ve only known by its codename thus far, “Orbis,” and we’ll be on site liveblogging the whole shindig. But that’s not all! Our intrepid EIC, Tim Stevens, is joining Joystiq‘s EIC, Ludwig Kietzmann, for a little pre- and post-show conjecture / analysis — you can find the former here, and the latter right here. Dish Network and Voom HD settle lawsuit, AMC programming to return as soon as tonight

Dish Network has announced that it has settled its lawsuit with Voom HD, which resulted in the removal of AMC stations from Dish’s service earlier this summer. The settlement terms require Dish to pay $ 700 million to Voom HD for 500MHz worth of spectrum licenses covering 150 million people. Now that the litigation is settled, Dish has agreed to carry AMC starting this evening, and the other AMC Networks channels including Sundance Channel, WE tv, IFC, and Fuse starting on November 1. This means that Dish customers will again be able to watch shows like Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and The Walking Dead, which should make more than few people happy.
