Tough Times: Former Air Force One Plane Up For Auction

air-force-one-auction.jpg

Most likely to dig us out of this huge deficit, the government is auctioning a former Flying force One flight, which it will probably change with an additional Air Force One flight that’s more recent and 10x more pricey. You know, I wish we might select where our tax dollars went since I ‘d desire mine simply flushed down the shitter and the video broadcast over the web.

It’s rarely we get to sell a piece of history like this, however GSA Auctions is offering this plane that flew Head of states Ford, Carter, Reagan, Shrub, Clinton & Bush (as well as the Vice-President, First Lady, Cabinet secretaries, 4-star generals, admirals, foreign dignitaries and even more).

Enjoyable fact: did you understand a plane is technically just referred to as Air Force One if there’s a head of state aboard? Otherwise it’s just a fancy aircraft. Quick forward to some bad funny flick about a dumb however adorable head of state stepping on and off the airplane shouting, “Flying force One, routine airplane! Flying force One, routine airplane!” When I close my eyes I see Adam Sandler or among the Wayans brothers.

Thanks to E V I L A R E S, who’s so wicked he’s plotting how he can take over the world from 35,000-feet even as we talk.

3Dprinted firearm plans downloaded 100,000 times, State Department steps in

That didn’t take long — just days after its first test fire, the Liberator, a 3D-printed pistol designed by Defense Distributed founder Cody Wilson, has caught the attention of the federal government. It’s hardly a surprise: the arm’s blueprints were downloaded more than 100,000 times since going live on DefCAD this week. It’s not the amount of downloads that’s causing trouble, though, it’s who is downloading them. In a letter from the US State Department, Wilson was told that it’s a violation of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations to “export any defense article or technical data for which a license or written approval is required without first obtaining the required authorization from the DDTC (Directorate of Defense Trade Controls).”

The letter goes on to explain that these downloads legally count as exports under the law, telling Wilson to remove the plans from public access immediately. “That might be an impossible standard,” Wilson told Forbes. “But we’ll do our part to remove it from our servers.” As it turns out, most of the gun’s downloads were served via Mega, making full removal near impossible. Still, Wilson seems optimistic about the situation, explaining to Forbes that conversation will help mold the discussion on 3D printed weaponry. “Is this a workable regulatory regime? Can there be defense trade control in the era of the internet and 3D printing?” We’re looking forward to discovering the answer ourselves.

The New York Times Releases Its Headline-Reading Google Glass App

nyt-glass2

Google’s ambitious Glass display is still a ways off from its public release, but it looks like those newly minted Glass Explorers now have something else to do besides taking first-person photos. The New York Times just pulled back the curtain on its own Glass-friendly app today, which makes it the first installable third-party app available for the ambitious headset (Path was technically the first third-party app, but it’s preloaded on early versions of the device).

It’s no surprise to see the Grey Lady embrace Glass so enthusiastically — Google developer advocate Timothy Jordan first showed off an early version of the New York Times Glass app at SXSW 2013 in Austin (you can see his full talk here), which pipes new news and headlines to the head-mounted display at regular intervals. Navigating through that stream of news seemed easy enough: a quick tilt of the head would allow the user to sift through photos and full articles, as well.

Setting up the app is a simple process — clicking on the link above asks for access to your Google account:

Once that’s all done, Glass can occasionally chime in by reading headlines in your ear, but the app is also capable of reading off brief article summaries too. All told it seems like a very neat, (if strangely intrusive way) to consume your daily dose of news, and other companies have already pledged to craft their own Glass experiences — Path and the New York Times are a given, but Evernote and supposedly even Twitter are working on apps for Google’s daring device.

Guy Performs Ocarina Of Time’s Song Of Storms Acapella

song-of-storms-by-one-guy.jpg

Seen below looking suspiciously like the lovechild of Gandalf and Cousin Itt (easily two of my most significant star crushes), Youtuber and dreamboat Smooth McGroove performs Ocarina Of Time’s ‘Track of Storms’ acapella. If you liked it he has an entire lot of various other Zelda tracks too I just selected this one since it is among my personal faves. I’ll actually catch myself humming it when I’m riding my bike around town trying to pretend I reside in fantasyland rather of two blocks from Skid Row. You know the number of homeless individuals in my area I understand on a given name basis? All them. Except Shoeless Joe Jackson, he suches as to be resolved by his complete name and I appreciate that. When a guy doesn’t even own shoes the least you could do is call him what he desires.

Struck the jump for the video.
