Internet radio site Pandora is launching a new station called “Pandora Premieres.” Unlike its regular service, which creates custom radio stations based on your preferences, Premieres will preview upcoming album releases from “upcoming and established artists” in their entirety before they go on sale. The model is similar to that of iTunes, which recently streamed both Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories and the new David Bowie album free of charge prior to their release. The main difference between the two services is Apple’s iTunes previews are presented as a continuous stream, whereas Premieres allows users to play any track in any order.
The first albums to be previewed through Pandora Premieres will be John Fogerty’s Wrote a Song…

Question by Lamont: Would there be different manufacturers of humanoid robots if they were ever to function properly?
I mean if one were to build a humanoid robot and it be a domesticated servant bot, could other companies start up and start manufacturing their own robots. Lets use the movie i robot for an example, could one company just manufacture it or would other countries have a right to build them to. Something similar to this would be different car companies such as ford, honda, or toyota.

As we move ever closer to all-digital film production, the film reel is becoming a rarer sight in modern movie theaters. In an attempt to evoke the nostalgia associated with traditional film, Austrian photographer Reiner Riedler accessed the archives of major film museum Deutsche Kinemathek in Berlin, selecting a mix of popular and cult films — which include The Godfather, Ghosts, Scarface and Citizen Kane — for his new project, titled The Unseen Seen. Riedler then photographed the reels by installing film lights behind them, generating a unique and vivid set of photos that he hopes will recall images from a viewer’s memory and help associate the colors with the overall tone of the film, generating new emotions from movies of old.

Since late 2009 when we begin to see the curve start to trend upwards more sharply, Apple has introduced its own iPod touch-based check out and inventory system (replacing a legacy version based on Windows CE hardware), moved to iPad-based information consoles, changed the structure of its stores to de-emphasize checkout and highlight Genius and One-to-One customer interaction, launched self-serve EasyPay shopping for customers, introduced in-store pickup, and just generally changed the way the world thinks about brick-and-mortar stores. No big deal.
Remember too that Apple’s retail leadership has been somewhat in turmoil recently. Apple’s SVP of Retail Operations Ron Johnson, largely credited with much of the retail division’s creation and success, left the company back in June of 2011. A search for his replacement ultimately resulted in the controversial hiring of Dixons CEO John Browett in January 2012, after a six-month search. Finally, John Browett was dismissed from that role in October 2012, after less than a year on the job. Apple is still looking for a replacement for Browett.
Apple is making commerce more invisible, and yet winning more shopper dollars.
It may seem like lack of a clearly defined top man in retail would lead to uncertainty, but Apple Retail had its best year ever in 2012 amid all these shakeups, and CEO Tim Cook said that the retail locations in particular have helped the iPad enjoy its runaway success since launching in 2010.
Cook talked about the label of “retail” not being sufficient to describe what Apple is building with its stores, and more and more, that’s becoming true. Just like the company tries to hide elements like the file system in iOS, or deliver CE devices that aren’t upgradeable or modular, opting instead for a smooth, appealing and user-friendly outward appearance, it’s also taking commerce out of the store experience as much as possible. And yet as a reward it’s winning more customer dollars.
You can measure innovation in terms of a revolutionary new smartphone, or a dramatically different PC design, or you can measure it in the aggregate effect of a sustained effort to change an age-old practice. Apple’s retail efforts are the latter kind, and its spending patterns suggest there’s plenty more of that to come.

It’s aimed at the cord cutter who wants to utilize OTA signals rather than someone looking to playback movie files. The Boxee TV has a gorgeous interface but the secret sauce is the cloud DVR.
Kippen explains that the cloud DVR is an industry first. It allows consumers to record as much content as they want and view it on any internet connected device. Simply record the TV and watch it anywhere, anytime.
But the DVR is still in beta and not available in all markets although the Boxee TV is sold nationwide. Kippen notes that the power of the Internet allows Boxee to ship a working product and then constantly improve it overtime. And it works for them. It also helps that Boxee knows how to make fantastic products.
