Wolfson WM5110 audio chip outputs ‘studio master’ sound, may appear in next Galaxy S (ears-on)

Wolfson WM5110 audio chip outputs 'studio master' 24bit 192KHz sound, might appear in the next Galaxy S earson video

Fast payday loans For Every One

What you’re looking at above is a demo board carrying a next-gen Wolfson WM5110 audio chip for smartphones. This bit of silicon isn’t in any market-ready handsets just yet, hence the DIY setup, but given Wolfson’s well-cemented partnership with Samsung there’s every chance this’ll be the audio hub in the next Galaxy S, as well as potentially in other manufacturers’ phones coming out in 2014.

One of the WM5110′s headline features is the ability to handle high sample rate music tracks at 24-bit and 192KHz, aka “studio master” or “better than CD quality” sound. Such skills are generally reserved for pricey standalone DACs like iRiver’s AK100, which allows Wolfson to claim that this is the first implementation for inside a smartphone. We have an ears-on video for you after the break, but it’s not much use for judging audio quality — the event was too noisy even for us to attempt that, so we’ll just wait to do another audio round-up in more controlled conditions — but at least there’s some proof of principle. On the other hand, if you’re unconvinced as to whether 192KHz is even a worthwhile spec to have in smartphone, then read on to learn about some of the WM5110′s other abilities, which have a more practical bent.

Deezer App Studio goes mobile, brings apps to Android and iOS listeners

Deezer App Studio goes mobile, brings apps to Android and iOS listeners

As much as we like extending our music universe through apps within the likes of Deezer and Spotify, that wider experience hasn’t usually carried over to mobile. Deezer, at least, thinks it can put those apps inside our pockets. App Studio now supports building add-ons for both Android and iOS devices, giving travelers music and social components beyond what Deezer can provide on its own. The company isn’t relying just on phones and tablets to pad its customer base, though. It’s also improving the behind-the-scenes framework to bolster gaming through its API, and an affiliate program will pay social app creators every time one of their users subscribes to Deezer. Us listeners will just have to wait for developers to implement App Studio and the API changes before we reap any potential rewards.

BLU Products ships Studio 5.3 II, rugged Tank 4.5

BLU Products launches rugged Tank 45, dualSIM Studio 53 II

BLU Products is leaving no niche revealed, it seems. Just a week after the Quattro line surfaced, we’re seeing two even more budget plan smartphones arrive that fill in exactly what few gaps are left. The Storage tank 4.5 seen above is an unusual rugged entry for BLU that’s dirt – and water-resistant, yet still fairly slim for a toughened phone at 0.38 inches– it’s the 4.5-inch qHD screen, dual-core 1GHz processor, 5-megapixel camera and 4GB of expandable storage space that keep the price in check. The Studio 5.3 II (below), on the other hand, is a direct sequel to last year’s Studio that takes on the enhanced processor and resolution of the Tank 4.5 while introducing a much better 8-megapixel camera. Regardless of the phone, you’ll discover Jelly Grain and roaming-friendly dual SIM slots with unlocked HSPA 3G. Both are delivering now to the United States for $ 199, which could be just low enough to catch tourists who desire an easy smartphone for that late winter season holiday.

Microsoft’s new London studio is building games exclusively for the cloud

Xbox Live stock

In November, we learned that Microsoft was planning to build original games for tablets and mobile phones, spreading the Xbox brand further than ever before, with a new UK studio called Lift London. Now, however, Microsoft VP Phil Harrison has clarified the studio’s mission: to build games for the cloud itself. “I wanted to create from scratch a 21st century studio. Not a studio that would make retail products; a studio that would make games for the cloud, putting together the most incredible talent ever seen in a start-up,” he told reporters during a London press conference. Though Harrison says the company will continue to support retail, suggesting that physical game discs might not go away soon, he suggested that the company’s future…

Microsoft announces new entertainment and game studio focused on Windows 8 tablet development

Microsoft announces new entertainment and game studio focused on Windows 8 tablet developmentWindows 8 slates are riding a wave of 40 Xbox titles into an October launch, and now Microsoft has laid the base to deliver even more games with a brand new studio concentrated on tablet development. The currently unmarked, London-based ensemble will certainly be headed by former Rare Production Director Lee Schuneman, who has shepherded Kinect Sports titles, the Xbox 360 Avatars, Fable: The Quest and the Xbox’s Sky TELEVISION application to completion. Pieces running Richmond’s latest Operating System won’t see a project from the group for a while, however, as the studio is still seeking new hires and won’t open its doors until November.

Livestream announces Studio HD500 all-in-one video switcher, ships October 15th for $8,500

Livestream announces Studio HD500 all-in-one video switcher, ships October 15th for $ 8,500

Earlier this year, Livestream quietly entered the hardware business with a real-time streaming puck known as the Broadcaster — an adequate moniker, to say the least. Now, some five months after that camera add-on made its intriguing debut, Livestream’s introducing the Studio HD500, an all-in-one video production switcher aimed at both hobbyists and pros. Most notable, however, is the fact the company’s entering this fresh market in good pricing fashion, given the Studio HD500′s appealing tag of $ 8,500 — which may still seem like a hefty amount, but ends up feeling light when compared to other similar tools that start off at a cool $ 15-$ 20k, such as, say, one of NewTek’s TriCaster offerings. At any rate, those near $ 9,000 for the Studio HD500 will get you a switcher loaded with live audio / multi-camera mixing capabilities, a built-in DVR and media player, one-click live streaming to the outfit’s own platform, plus a handful of inputs and outputs — including HD / SD, SDI, S-Video and HDMI. It’s also worth noting the Studio HD500 isn’t fully attached to Livestream’s site by any means, making it possible to use with other competing sites such as YouTube, Ustream and many more.

While kindly speaking to us, Livestream’s CEO Max Haot said, “Our goal is to get multi-camera switching equipment into as many hands as possible,” adding that the “key is to make it easier and more cost effective.” The Studio HD500 is available for pre-order today and set to start shipping on October 15th — which could be around the same time the free-of-charge, software-based variant makes an appearance, though all we know about that so far is it’ll be coming at some point “later this year.” In the meantime, there’s a couple of extra pics for your viewing pleasure down below, and the detailed presser from Livestream right after the break.
