Samsung Galaxy Stratosphere II sneakily goes up for sale at Verizon
When a provider says it will certainly deliver a phone in the “coming weeks,” there’s typically a certain routine involved: after weeks of waiting, we get an even more definitive press release attaching down the ship date and cost. Verizon isn’t big on practice, it appears. Just as numerous Americans settled down for Thanksgiving, the Samsung Galaxy Stratosphere II appeared for sale at Verizon’s web store. The Android QWERTY slider is offering at its guaranteed $ 130 agreement cost and costs $ 450 up front; about the only shock left for the mid-range messaging phone is out-of-the-box Isis support for NFC-based mobile payments. There’s talk at Android Central of customers who have actually already handled to snag the Stratosphere II at retail, although the timing is such that a lot of Americans will not see one first-hand until they’re recovering from a food coma.

According to Droid Life, a recent email sent out to Verizon customers revealed a trio of devices as part of the program, including the Galaxy Nexus, Droid Razr, and Samsung Stratosphere, all of which can be had for free if you renew your contract with Verizon for another two years. We’ve reached out to Verizon for some more details — including who actually qualifies for the deal — but have yet to hear back as of this writing.

Samsung Stratosphere review
Once upon a time, in the not-so-distant past, Verizon was still in phase one of its LTE lineup, which consisted of nothing but 4.3-inch slate phones with questionable battery life and very little to stand out from the rest of the competition. Now that we’re seeing the second generation of devices coming into the 4G fold, Big Red appears to be pushing choice — not just in terms of size and feel, but price as well. The Pantech Breakout was the first to, well, break out of the mold, offering a smaller form factor for a much more reasonable cost. It was nothing to write home about, but the fact that it existed gave us hope that we’d see a slew of phones in the same price range, finally making high-speed connectivity a more affordable option.
Shortly afterward, the Samsung Stratosphere sneaked up and snatched the spotlight away from Pantech, offering the very first QWERTY keyboard on an LTE-capable device for a cost similar to that of the Breakout. But when we first saw the phone, something felt eerily familiar: it looked almost exactly like the Epic 4G, a Galaxy S-era device that was released on Sprint’s WiMAX lineup nearly a year and a half ago. Looks are one thing, but what about the internals? Does the brand new Stratosphere perform like an old phone, or does it give a completely fresh perspective on a 2010 classic? Read on for the full scoop.

Verizon Officially Announces The Samsung Stratosphere
If you can recall that leaked Verizon roadmap we spotted way back in August, you’ll know that the Samsung Stratosphere is pretty delayed. Once slated for a September 8 launch alongside the mighty Droid Bionic, the phone has now been officially announced just a month later.
Similar in style and specs to the Epic 4G, the Samsung Stratosphere will enjoy the benefits of Verzon’s 4G LTE network, reports MobileBurn. The device sports a 4-inch Super AMOLED 480×800 display, a 5-megapixel rear shooter with auto focus and flash, along with a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat. Unfortunately, that rear camera won’t be recording any HD video, so hopefully you’ll have a Flip Cam tucked away somewhere for those special moments.
The Stratosphere is an Android 3.2 Gingerbread device powered by a single-core 1GHz processor. If you didn’t notice from the picture, the Stratosphere also comes loaded with a slide-out five-row QWERTY keyboard and Samsung’s TouchWiz UI.
For the specs on this bad boy, Verizon’s $ 149.99 on-contract price tag is not too shabby at all. The Stratosphere will be available in-store and online on October 13.

Samsung Stratosphere cleared for Verizon landing October 13th
It seems like only yesterday that we got the full specy treatment from Samsung’s QWERTYriffic Stratosphere — 4-inch Super AMOLED display, Android 2.3 and 5MP rear-facing camera included. There was an important bit of information missing from the proceedings, however — namely a release date. Droid Life has shed some light on that little mystery — according to the site, the LTE handset should start offering up its Gingerbread goodness on Verizon starting October 13th.

Samsung Stratosphere lays it all out with spec sheet treatment
The upcoming Samsung Stratosphere for Verizon Wireless is hardly a secret, but other than a few rumored details, the specs for this LTE-equipped QWERTY slider have remained a bit of a mystery. Now, all that has changed, thanks in large part to its leaked spec sheet from Big Red — just take a peek after the break. It’ll be packing a 4-inch Super AMOLED display with WVGA resolution, a (presumably) single-core 1GHz processor, along with 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage and a 4GB microSD card that’s pre-installed. Curiously, it’ll be the first of Verizon’s LTE phones to incorporate a Micro SIM in place of the larger, traditional offering. Other than that, it looks as if the speculation of Android 2.3, along with its 5MP rear / 1.3MP front cams were dead on. There will also be an LED flash in tow, although video capture will be limited to a rather mundane 480p. That said, if you’re thirsting for speed but are needing a keyboard, the Stratosphere is looking like your obvious (albeit only) choice.

London’s E-Health Cloud program will send patient records to the stratosphere next month
You’d think that the recent spate of high-profile cyberattacks would’ve deterred the healthcare industry from sending patient records to the cloud — but you’d be wrong. Beginning next month, all data on patients at London’s Chelsea and Westminster Hospital will be stored in a centralized database, accessible from any computer, smartphone or tablet. Under the National Health Service’s pilot program, known as E-Health Cloud, patients will be able to decide which doctors, nurses or family members can view their records, allowing them to easily share their data with other specialists. Flexiant, the Scottish software company that developed the platform, hopes to eventually expand it to other treatment phases, including assisted living, and insists that its system will help the NHS save money in the long-term. Security, however, will likely prove critical to the program’s success. Users will have to pass multiple ID checkpoints to access the database, but privacy-wary Londoners might demand protection a bit more robust than an automated bouncer. You won’t need to adhere to a dress code to view the full PR, available after the break.
