Van Gogh’s Starry Night Made From Pics Of Real Galaxies

starry-night-galaxies.jpg

This is a partnership piece between Vincent Van Gogh and astronomy student Alex Parker. Van Gogh painted Starry Evening, then Alex recreated the piece using photos of genuine galaxies taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. I wonder what it was like getting to work with such a popular artist!

The astronomer, whose speciality is discovering the asteroids and proto-planets of our solar system, downloaded Hubble’s Top 100 Images to produce this new take on Van Gogh’s work of art.

He informed Discovery News: ‘The idea turned up around the time of Hubble’s 22nd birthday, when I thought it would certainly be neat to assemble a collage of a lot of Hubble images from over its history.

Simply remarkable. “You didn’t review any of that did you?” Not a single word. Listen, I’m gonna be truthful with you for a sec– I’m simply trying to obtain back to playing Borderlands, ok?

Hit the jump for a closeup.

Pac-Man And Ghosts Invade Van Gogh’s Starry Night

pac-man-starry-night.jpg

This is a collaboration piece between Vincent Van Gogh and DeviantARTist SirNosh featuring Pac-Man and some ghosts running amok in Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’. Now I’m not saying throwing some video game characters into classic paintings would be a great way to get kids interested in visiting the museum, but if you think a busload of fifth graders wouldn’t be excited to go see Master Chief honking on Mona Lisa’s tits, you’re wrong.

Thanks to Keith, who, for two tips in two days, is well on his way to getting on my good side.
