We know you’ve got questions, and if you’re brave enough to ask the world for answers, then here’s the outlet to do so. This week’s Ask Engadget inquiry is from James, who wants to break into audio mixing, but needs some noisyboxes for his desk. If you’re looking to ask one of your own, drop us a line at ask [at] engadget [dawt] com.

I’m no audiophile, but I would like some decent quality sound for my desktop. I’ve tried 4.1, 2.1, 2.0 setups but none of them made me very happy, which isn’t helping my attempts to get into professional audio work. Is there a lower-end line of speakers that the pros use that I’d be able to afford?

Fortunately for you, James, we can turn this question over to our podcast producer, who suggested that you could do worse than a pair of KRK RP6G2 Rockit speakers, which come in at $ 400 for a pair. They’re studio monitors rather than purely desktop speakers, but if you want to start working in audio then you’re probably better off with these. Of course, it wouldn’t be Ask Engadget unless we turned this question over to our clever crew of commenters, so if you know of anything that’s better (or cheaper) then fire your answer into the comments below.

Samsung, Flo Rida introduce massive Giga Sound MX-FS9000 speakers

Kate Upton, Eli Manning– this is a seriously star-studded Samsung occasion right here in New York– and the latest star to step up on stage is Flo Rida, who helped unveil the brand-new, super-sized Giga Noise MX-FS9000 speakers. Featuring dual 15-inch subwoofers that provide 2560W in noise, they’ll opt for $ 1,499 when they debut in May. The prominent visitors has sent this room of photographers into a craze, so it will take a couple of mins for us to push our method through to get hands-on. Bowers & Wilkins Intros The Zeppelin Air And Z2 Wireless Speakers With iPhone 5 Owners In Mind

Bowers & Wilkin ’ s Zeppelin speaker is one of its finest items, however as times develop, so does the company and its items. And possibly rightfully so, thinking about the speaker has among the more renowned designs in its course among competitors. The Air has been upgraded with a Lightning dock, and the company even made that dock versatile. Since it bends, you ’ ll never ever have to stress over harming the Lightning port on your iOs device or the dock of the speaker. The Zeppelin Air is available in May for $ 599.99.

Z2

The Z2 is quickly reminiscent of the Zeppelin Mini, B&W ’ s shot at a Zeppelin spin-off. Bowers & Wilkins insists the Z2 is not a next-generation Mini, however a brand new product line. Just like the Zeppelin Air, the Z2 provides Airplay streaming, a lightning dock, and B&W ’ s flexible dock modern technology. The Z2 is available in a significantly smaller sized package deal than the Air, and the dock nearly appears undetectable until you ’ re hovering over the speaker. The Z2 is available in April in both black and June in white for $ 399. Both products are made for the high-end listener, but if you can pick up an A5 or A7 along the way, Bowers & Wilkins will have really finished its goal. The focus with all new products from the business is that the music should follow you, and not the other way around.

Bowers & Wilkin’s Zeppelin speaker is one of its best products, but as times evolve, so does the company and its products. That’s why the British Speaker manufacturer is introducing the Zeppelin Air wireless speaker and the brand new Z2. Not too long ago, B&W released the A5 and A7 speakers, for consumers who are truly wireless. Neither speaker has a dock of any kind, but rather stream music wirelessly through Apple’s AirPlay. But with the A line, B&W realized that, regardless of wireless play or not, people enjoy having a dock on their speaker. “When you walk into your home, the speaker is always in the same place, and we’ve heard from customers that they like slapping their phone down on the dock and letting it charge,” said Brian Devlin. “That way they always know where it is.” Both the Zeppelin Air and Z2 have both wireless functionality as well as iPhone 5 docks.

Spherical Ballo smartphone speakers are the belle of the ball

There are countless external speakers for smartphones, however OYO’s new Ballo speakers are maybe a few of the most stylish that we have ever seen. Developed by Swiss developer Bernard Burkhard, the Ballo guarantees to provide 360 degrees of border sound and improved bass feedback when the speaker is put on a flat surface. The speaker itself is mono, however stereo sound can be achieved if 2 Ballo speakers are plugged into a stereo splitter.

The speaker works with a lot of smartphones, and owners could personalize the appearance of the Ballo with 10 various color bands that go around the speaker. Behringer announces OMNI series, brings your legacy gear to the AirPlay party

Behringer made a little a splash as CES last year with its big iPhone dock, this year it’s keeping things a bit more front-room friendly. Launching its brand-new OMNI system, the audio maker intends to bring a little AirPlay magic to your house, without leaving out some of your legacy hardware. The system consists of modular elements that let you add your passive speakers into the mix, as well as work together as a whole. More specifically, the OMNI SP3 and SP5i devices are all-in-one 2.1 systems, and there’s a devoted subwoofer too. But, if you don’t have or wish their very own type, you could generate your own. The OMNI Amp is a 2 x 40W stereo amplifier and AirPlay receiver that lets you play your songs with your existing passive shelf or floor-mounted gear, and energetic speakers can be looped into the AirPlay celebration with the OMNI link box. The speakers are provisionally set to cost $ 249 (for the SP3i) and $ 349 (for the SP5i and sub), while the amp and link boxes will likely set you back $ 199 and $ 129 respectively. No word on the official launch date, however head on over to the press release for more details.

Harman brings trio of JBL speakers and pair of AV receivers to CES

Harman has joined several other companies in jumping the CES gun, announcing five new products it’s bringing to the show. First up is the JBL Charge, a hardy Bluetooth speaker which promises an impressive 12 hours of tunes on a single charge. If you are willing to sacrifice some of that play time, you can siphon power from the internal battery to other kit via the speaker’s USB port. Expected to start shipping in Q1 2013, you should be able to pick one up for around $ 149. Joining JBL’s OnBeat range are the Mini and Rumble speaker docks, which are both compatible with Apple’s Lightning connector. The Mini is a fairly standard dock which will play and charge for up five hours on battery power, and should be available this coming March for around $ 149. The Rumble, however, is a little more equipped, with both Lightning and Bluetooth streaming options, as well as a 4.5-inch, “down-firing subwoofer” for bass junkies. That extra muscle is reflected in the price, though, which is likely to be $ 399 when it hits stores next spring.

A couple of new Kardon-branded A/V receivers from Harman are also coming along to CES — the AVR 2700 and 3700. Both have multi-zone functionality, are stacked with wireless features including internet radio, AirPlay and DLNA connectivity, and can be controlled using iOS and Android apps. The AVR 2700 has eight HDMI ports and 4K video scaling for when you get round to buying that UHDTV, as well as 7.1-channel audio (at 100 watts per channel). The AVR 3700 adds WiFi connectivity, and has 7.2 channels (at 125 watts per channel) for adding a second woofer to your setup. When they become available to purchase in Q1 2013, expect wallet damage to the tune of $ 799 for the 2700, or $ 999 for the 3700.
