TV Maker Loewe Shares Jump 45 Percent After Apple Buyout Rumors

German luxury brand Loewe experienced a roller coaster day. A trader commented that “ Apple supposedly wishes to bid 4 euros a share for Loewe, ” which sent out Loewe shares up as much as 44.5 percent to 3.93 compared with yesterday ’ s closing rate of 2.72. The German stock exchange closed today with Loewe shares trading at 3.35, representing a one-day rise of 23.16 percent. In Could 2012, rumors emerged on AppleInsider that the company was interested in the German TV producer. Although Loewe rejected the report and Apple declined to comment, a buyout wouldn ’ t be a big danger for Apple. Loewe ’ s market capitalization is around $ 58.6 million (EUR43.58 million). Exactly what we wouldn’t provide to have access to Google’s bonanza of human wonderings. E Ink Holdings To Buy Shares From SiPix Technology In A Bid To Expand Role In E-Paper Market

If the folks at E Ink holdings have their way, there may be plenty more e-paper displays sprouting up in your future than you may have expected.
The company just recently announced that it plans to purchase a majority stake in fellow display manufacturer SiPix Technology and its Imaging subsidiary in a bid to expand its presence in the e-paper market.
E Ink is currently slated to purchase 82.7% of SiPix’s shares, and plans to buy out the remainder in due course. Since the transaction isn’t expected to close until some time in the fourth quarter, there’s no firm word on how much the transaction will actually cost E Ink — that said, the price tag attached to the full load of SiPix shares hovers around NT$ 1.5 billion (just a hair over $ 50 million).
The company’s handiwork can be readily seen by strolling through the aisles of your local electronics purveyor — they supply the paper-like displays for a whole host of e-reader lines, with the Kindle and Nook families prime among them. Of course, the uses for low-power, highly-legible displays isn’t limited to just skimming through Tolstoy’s back catalog. E Ink chairman Scott Liu noted that the company’s goal was to effectively put its display technology on “every smart surface,” which is precisely where SiPix comes into play.
SiPix, which has offices located in Taiwan and California, has most of its business locked up in what E Ink CMO Sriram Peruvemba refers to as the “non-eReader space.” Sure, they’ll pitch in on an e-reader or two, but the company’s forte lies in things like smart cards, hard disk drives and signage.
“They had IP that is valuable to E Ink,” Peruvemba went on to say. “This action will give us more technical talent that is experienced, as well as access to more technologies.” Exactly what sort of IP that E Ink found so tempting is as yet unknown, but it probably won’t be too long before the fruits of both companies’ combined labor pops up in a gadget or a display near you.

Google Chrome 19 Stable arrives, shares live tabs across your computers and phones (video)

Google first teased live tab syncing in Chrome 19 beta, and it’s now available for all of us who tread the safer path of Stable releases. If you weren’t living on the bleeding edge for long enough to try the syncing early, you’ll be glad to know that it lets you see and quickly sync all the tabs that are open on any device signed into your Google account. That includes your phone or tablet, if you’ve got Android 4.0 and the Chrome for Android beta loaded up. Like with the beta, though, you’ll have to cool your jets if you were hoping to get live syncing right away: Chrome 19 Stable is pushing automatically over the next few days, but tab syncing will take weeks to be ready for everybody.

For as small as Jolicloud is, the company sure knows how to hang around. After renaming its cloud-based desktop operating system to Joli OS (and subsequently open-sourcing the thing), the outfit is taking a somewhat different approach with its latest offering. Jolicloud Me is a new type of cloud organizer — think of it as a mashup between Pinterest and Dropbox, among other things. It’s a high-level aggregation tool that pulls together cloud-based information and shares; things like music, images and video — regardless of where they came from — are grouped together. We’ve certainly seen social sharing aggregators before, but there’s a certain level of elegance to this one. Beta invites are going out today (see the source link), with platform support for Android, iOS and the world wide web via HTML5. Something tells us we’re just a few months out from yet another service that aggregates the aggregators.

There’s an alarming rumor circulating that suggests that UK network O2 forwards your cellphone number to any website you visit with your smartphone. Lewis Peckover built a webpage that displays your header data, finding a field called “x-up-calling-line-id” which was his own phone number. Angry users have already flooded O2′s Twitter, which is currently issuing the response:
“Security is our top most priority, we’re investigating this at the moment & will come back with more info as soon as we can.”
The Next Web confirmed that Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone do not send numbers, but GiffGaff (an O2-owned MVNO) does. TNW’s sources say that it’s most likely an internal testing setup that has been accidentally freed on the wider public. We’re getting in touch with O2 to see if we can’t learn more and we’ll keep you updated as soon as we do.
Update: O2 confirmed that its “investigating with internal teams and it’s our top priority”. Slashgear and Think Broadband were unable to replicate the problem, so either the company is hurriedly fixing the issue or it was less widespread than initially believed.
