US Cellular now letting you sample its network without signing a contract

DNP US Cellular lets you sample its network before signing a contract

Taking a play-before-you-pay technique, for a limited time, United States Cellular is providing prospective consumers the option to attempt its network without dedicating to a service arrangement. This offer is readily available in choose markets, consisting of Eureka, CA, Klamath Falls, OR and Knoxville, TN. While this may sound similar to exactly what most carriers provide, the distinctions right here are that you’re not needed to sign a service agreement and that you don’t need to pay for any equipment. Instead, US Cellular offers a loaner device (the Motorola Electrify M, Samsung Chrono 2 or Samsung Galaxy Metrix) for 8 days with an allotment of 500 mins, 500 texts and 1GB of information. While this program doesn’t feature the most elite phones, it does give potential clients a preview of the regional carrier without having to exchange any vows.

Curiosity rover collects first interplanetary drill sample

mars drill hole

NASA’s Mars Interest Rover has become the first item in human history to gather a sample from the inside of a rock on another planet, the firm announced today. The Curiosity rover caught the sample on February 8th from a shallow location on the Red World that may have been submerged under water in ancient times. Inspect out the hours-long drilling process accelerated in an image loop captured by the rover’s onboard danger cameras:

The rover used its percussive drill on the end of its 7-foot-long arm to bore a 2.5-inch hole in Martian bedrock, then extracted the grated rock powder and put it into its scooping instrument, which in turn disposed of part of the powder into the rover’s collection instrument for additional refinement. NASA …

Panasonic’s Lumix schedule expands: DMC-G5 Micro Four Thirds, DMC-FZ200 superzoom and DMC-LX7 hands-on and sample shots

Panasonic's Lumix lineup grows DMCG5 Micro Four Thirds, DMCFZ200 superzoom and DMCLX7 handson and sample shots

It’s been nearly half a year since Panasonic’s Lumix series of video cameras got any type of new members, but today the company is introducing three even more shooters to the household. Initially up is the DMC-G5, most up to date addition to the company’s Micro 4 Thirds lineup. It’s the successor to the G3 and loads a 16-megapixel sensor capable of shooting 1080p video clips at 60fps and stills in up to 6fps surges at a max 12,800 ISO at full resolution. The G5′s LVF has a proximity sensor to automatically switch over between it and the video camera’s 920,000-dot capacitive screen depending on which one you’re making use of to frame your shots. When the G5 goes on sale next month, you’ll have your selection of black, silver and white styles.

In addition to the G5, Panasonic’s even introducing a brand-new superzoom camera, the DMC-FZ200 and a high-end DMC-LX7 point-and-shoot. The FZ200 replaces the FZ150 and pairs a 12-megapixel sensing unit with a 25-600mm continual f/2.8 aperture Leica Elmarit lens with nano area covering to reduce flare and ghosting. It has a 24x optical zoom and shoots 1080p video at up to 60fps along with stills in up to 12fps surges, though its max ISO is just 6,400. On the other hand, the LX7 has come in sporting a 10-megapixel sensing unit and a 24-90mm, f/1.4 -2.3 Leica Summilux lens with the exact same nano area layer as the FZ200. Like its Lumix brethren, it shoots 1080p video clip at 60fps, and shares the same maximum 12,800 ISO as the G5. It’ll be accessible in black and pearl white when it ships in August. We got to spend some time with all three, so join us after the break to discover a bit about what its like snapping pics with this trio of Panasonics.

Sony NEX-F3 and A37 cameras hands-on and sample shots

Image

Sony’s newest NEX and DSLR have already graced these pages — albeit in decidedly unofficial fashion — but the time has come for this duo of shooters to be revealed to the world with the blessing of their maker. In case you didn’t catch the earlier leaks, the NEX-F3 is the replacement for the much-beloved NEX-C3 as the entry-level ILC from Sony, while the A37 slots in the same place in the company’s Alpha DSLR lineup. Sony’s also rolling out fresh glass for each this July, in the form of an E-mount 18-200mm, F3.5-6.3 zoom lens for $ 850, and an 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 A-mount telephoto unit that’ll set you back $ 500. Both the NEX-F3 and A37 will come with kit 18-55mm lenses and cost $ 600 when they go on sale in June, which makes them quite competitively priced as compared to their competition. An enviable pricing position, to be sure, but can they deliver the imaging goods? Well, we spent time with each on a tour of San Francisco recently, so join us after the break for our impressions and some sample photos.

New iPad shows up in Hong Kong, teases with sample photos and video clip

Looks like Vietnam ain’t the only place that got an early taste of the new iPad, which is due out this Friday. Hong Kong magazine PCM just informed us that it got hold of a 4G flavor of Apple’s latest tablet, courtesy of a very mysterious person (especially considering the 4G version isn’t yet available in this region). Within the little time it spent with the new iPad, PCM managed to do plenty of comparisons with the tablet’s predecessor, particularly with their camera and graphics performance. While pretty much everything’s been beefed up, PCM claims that the new lens isn’t as wide as before, while also noting that the extra 50g is pretty noticeable — obviously we shall see for ourselves on Friday. Hands-on video and sample video clip embedded after the break, and head on over to the source link for more comparison shots.

See What A 41MP Camera Can Do: Nokia Releases 808 PureView Sample Shots

nokia-3

Nokia’s announcement of the Symbian Belle-powered 808 PureView and its 41-megapixel camera took many (including me) by surprise this morning, and there were more than a few demo photos being thrown up during the presentation.

I got the chance to play with the 808 earlier this morning, but the inside of the Fira Montjuic’s Hall 5 didn’t provide the best vistas to photograph (I really wish I could’ve smuggled one outside, as Barcelona’s architecture is beautiful). Nokia has come through a handful of impressive sample shots though, and while your mileage may vary, they’re a stunning testament to the 808′s downright crazy camera.

Hit up Nokia’s blog for a zip file of the full, uncompressed versions.
