RadioShack parts company with CEO James F. Gooch in management shakeup

RadioShack tells CEO James F Gooch to go home, cos he cant stay thereRadioShack’s board of directors have asked present CEO James F. Gooch to step down from his position, efficient right away. While the management group does not have a replacement in mind, present CFO Dorvin Lively will presume control of the store while a recruitment agency starts headhunting. Neither party offered any sort of explanations for the announcement, however the wording of the release (below) did bring to mind the phrase “bloodless coup” for some explanation.

‘RadioShack No Contract Wireless’ powered by Cricket looking all but certain for September 5th launch date

radioshack logo

All signs recommend that RadioShack is aiming to use its renowned name to offer some cellphones and plans. A private tipster has delivered us photos of an internal memo sent to employees describing the brand-new service provider– called RadioShack No Contract Wireless– and the details provided corroborates multiple reports around the internet disclosing the brand-new service. RadioShack No Contract Wireless will certainly be a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that uses Cricket’s infrastructure and will be offered come September 5th, asing stated by the documents. Phones and plans aren’t yet detailed, however the memo clarifies that it will (naturally) be a contract-free service and that it will certainly try to separate itself from Cricket’s choices with Muve New music and a.

Mild-mannered RadioShack employee outs Google Wallet’s launch date?

Okay, there’s a possibility that our growing anxiousness for Google Wallet is distorting our perceptions. Or, perhaps we’re merely days from its debut. Let’s put it this way: new information from RadioShack suggests the retailer will begin accepting Google Wallet transactions on September 1st. While this fundamentally means that NFC readers will be in place — which isn’t earth-shattering news — The Shack is one of Google Wallet’s launch partners, and it seems the company is priming its employees for the revolution late next week. Like Fox Mulder, we want to believe. Worst case scenario, we now have proof that Google’s launch partners are gearing up for its arrival. Hey, we’re looking forward to handing over our phones to complete strangers. Aren’t you?

[Thanks, Abed]

RadioShack ditches T-Mobile for Verizon, switcheroo happens September 15th

Well, it looks like T-Mobile is no longer on friendly enough terms with Radio Shack to call it “The Shack.” The retailer announced today that it’s ending its partnership with the carrier in favor of a new one with rival Verizon, which will be joining current partners AT&T and Sprint. The last day to buy a T-Mobile phone or service plan at The Shack will be September 14th, with Verizon moving in and setting up shop the very next day. As Reuters notes, however, the move isn’t all that surprising — the partnership has apparently been both an unprofitable one and a rocky one, with Radio Shack recently alleging that T-Mobile had “materially breached” its contract. While that’s a bit of a blow for T-Mobile, the move seems to be working out quite well for Radio Shack — its stock has already shot up more than 20 percent today on the news.

Samsung Galaxy S heads to RadioShack on three carriers

I usually venture into a RadioShack store once a year or so when I am in the mall around Christmas just to see all the sweet remote control toys they carry. The Shack has been working hard to get people to come in more and one of the ways that it has pulled that off is by turning itself into a seller of all wireless phones.

The Shack is offering the sweet new Galaxy S smartphone on three different carriers all in one place. You can get the Galaxy S as the Epic for Sprint, Vibrant for T-Mobile, or the Captivate for AT&T. The AT&T device sells for $199, while the other two are apparently going for $149.99.

If you grab the AT&T version at RadioShack, you get an immediate $20 accessory credit. The T-Mo version gets free Avatar film loaded up and The Sims 3 game along with a $50 gift card in the mail. That is the deal to get if you can live with T-Mobile. Pre-orders start August 13 in stores everywhere.

Radio Shack taking EVO 4G preorders for $50 deposit, will toss in $20 for accessories

Between Sprint and Best Buy locations, there shouldn’t be any shortage of opportunities to score an EVO 4G next month — assuming inventory holds up, of course — but Radio Shack’s getting in the game, too, and it’s sweetening the deal just a little bit. If you reserve a phone prior to launch by purchasing a $50 gift card (which you’ll presumably use in June to help pay for the purchase), they’ll toss in a $20 credit toward accessories when you come back in. Of course, these days, that doesn’t even get you all the way to affording a freaking wall charger, but it’s better than a punch in the nose.
