Proof That Twitter Is Angrier And More Partisan Than The Rest Of The World
If you couldn't already tell from, you know, your entire feed .

A new Pew survey set out to determine how closely Twitter users’ political opinions track those of the nation at large. The answer, perhaps unsurprisingly, is that they often don't: “The reaction on Twitter to major political events and policy decisions often differs a great deal from public opinion as measured by surveys,” the study says.
Twitter users tend to lean left and skew young compared to the general population. But in terms of the way they digest news, partisanship on both sides was glaringly evident. Twitter is usually more partisan often more negative than the polled public: Obama's second inaugural speech, for example, was viewed favorably by 48% of polled adults and just 13% of (nominally more liberal than average) Twitter users.
“[T]he overall negativity on Twitter over the course of the campaign stood out,” says the study. “For both candidates, negative comments exceeded positive comments by a wide margin throughout the fall campaign season.”
Twitter's design and structure favors punchy, emotionally charged posts. But the most plausible reason for these patterns, in my view, is that Twitter users, who often drove the meta-conversation during the election, are part of the media conversation, which is smaller and more charged than what you might call the national conversation.
Twitter is full of pundits and arguers and reporters who, for over a year, fed news to their followers who then digested it in public. It makes sense that participants would be more galvanized than observers — that's why they showed up in the first place.

Elon Musk Lays Out His Proof That New york city Times Tesla Design S Examination Drive Was “Phony”.
Tesla Motors CEO and founder Elon Musk certainly isn ’ t the very best guy to try to pull a fast one on. The visionary business owner set Twitter a titter when he claimed previously this week that New York Times author John Broder had fudged details about the Tesla Models S automobile ’ s range in freezing weather, resulting in what he described a “ fake ” short article. Musk guaranteed proof, and now he has provided, by means of the official Tesla blog.
In keeping with his brief description of what was wrong with the review from his initial tweet, Musk laid out exactly how vehicle logs (standard practice after Tesla ran into issues with Top Gear, which dramatized a breakdown where none really existed) showed that the auto Broder was driving for his post was incorrectly charged, took an unscheduled side journey and basically appeared to have actually been set up to fail.
Musk breaks down what failed in a number of bullet points, but basically Broder ’ s vehicle never ever lacked juice entirely; was charged to a level which he understood wouldn ’ t be enough to get to his location at one point; really exceeded its anticipated range; was driven previous charging stations which can ’ ve helped it finish the trip; and was taken for a lengthy detour through Manhattan not consisted of in the initial journey plan.
Various other issues contribute to the reported deception, including environment control settings that run counter to Broder ’ s specified claims in the short article about what he did with in-car heating (cranked up the temperature when he said he turned it down). The smaller information aren ’ t always the most consequential, however the reality that Musk has record of even these smaller contradictions in his test car ’ s logs helps to paint a picture of a writer who appears to have actually been blatantly gunning for Tesla from the beginning.
Musk says that Broder altered specifics and the conditions of the test to help fit with his pre-existing viewpoint, which he gets to thanks to a quote from Broder in an article released in 2012. Broder basically attempts to deflate the sunny image of a future fulled of electric vehicles, claiming that “ the state of the electric vehicle is miserable, the “ sufferer of hyped assumptions, technical flops, high costs and a hostile political environment. ” To be reasonable, because post Broder also goes on to offer lots of area to electric vehicle supporters, too, and even gives the last word to Chris Paine, the documentary filmmaker behind Who Killed the Electric Auto?, ending on Paine ’ s signified accusation that the oil and gas sector lag stalling the electric future of car transport.
However general, Musk ’ s proof is pretty damning, particularly backed up as it is by solid information from the Model S itself. He ends by requiring the NYT to introduce an examination into the short article and its writing, and after an attack like this, I ’ d suspect the NYT would have to do simply that in order to have the ability to come up with a satisfactory feedback.

More Proof For September 21 Ship Date For iPhone 5
Back in August, TechCrunch received word that Verizon was organizing a holiday blackout for September 21 to September 30, showing that would certainly be the release date for the brand-new iPhone 5. Now, brand-new information proposes that ’ s the right date, based on different sources. MacRumors is reporting that FedEx is preparing for “ surge volume ” need for cargos between September 21 and September 24.
The details comes in the form of a notice of class postponement for FedEx worker training, indicating that the shipper wants to have all hands on deck when it comes time to obtain the brand-new iPhone into the hands of folks who pre-ordered and on retail racks. Extra details gotten by Geeky Gadgets the other day also claims to verify that September 21 will certainly be the release date for the iPhone in the USA, the U.K. and some other countries. Apple is set to reveal its newest iPhone at a press occasion to be held next Tuesday at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco, and we ’ ll be there, stating the information as they are available in.
One more interesting point to note: U.K. service providers Orange and T-Mobile U.K. have actually teamed up to create Every thing Everywhere, a combined network that just revealed it ’ ll be holding a special event on September 11, the day before Apple ’ s event. AndroidCentral states signs are that it ’ ll reveal a new LTE network at that time, ahead of the iPhone 5 ′ s launch, which would make sense given the iPhone 5 ′ s rumored LTE capabilities.

Those Signals Cause Cancer!: Wi-Fi Proof Wallpaper

Scientists in Grenoble, France have created a silver-crystal coated wallpaper that blocks Wi-Fi signals. The wallpaper will be available for sale next year, but amazingly isn’t being marketing to the people who’re convinced Wi-Fi signals cause testicular shrinkage and saggy boobs but instead as a defense against Wi-Fi stealing neighbors. Because God forbid you put a f***ing password on your router. “You can do that?” Haha — yes grandma, you can.
Thanks to jedi GK, who locks down his Wi-Fi the old fashioned way: naming his router ‘Connect_and_die’.

Proof That We’re Living In The Future: The iPhone Heart Monitor

We’re living in the future, folks. Really, look around you: we have the biggest collection of knowledge in history available for free, at our fingertips — and we can access it in a car, at 70 miles per hour, without any wires. Planes can transport us across the country, or across the world, in hours (or, as Louis CK so wonderfully puts it, “You’re sitting in a chair.. in the sky.) Technology that changed the world and cost many thousands of dollars just 20 years ago now comes at a fraction of the price, and at a fraction of the size. Everything is amazing.
The thing in the video after the jump (which’ll be announced at CES next week) is just one more example.
