According to a recent Q&A with Bloomberg, Heins and the rest of the company don’t intend to take on low-cost handset manufacturers like ZTE and Huawei, which have made significant inroads not only in China but India and parts of Africa as well. Their major draw is their ability to churn out reasonably robust, sub-$ 100 Android smartphones, and that’s the sort of game BlackBerry doesn’t seem eager to play.

“This is not BlackBerry,” Heins said, adding that this year would see the release of multiple LTE-enabled BlackBerry 10 devices “geared towards those price bands where people need to be.”

While the company could surely pick up some points for churning out low-cost, no-frills hardware in the right markets, its current approach seems to be doing well for now. Leaked In-Store Signage Says B&N Is Prepping A Nook Simple Touch Reader With GlowLight

It looks as if B&N will beat Amazon to market with the first front-lit ereader. Called The Nook Simple Touch Reader with GlowLight, the signage advertises a Nook with an illuminated screen. This comes just days after Devin spied a very similar Kindle.

The Kindle Devin spotted used a front-lit screen that produced an even glow over the screen. “The screen lit up evenly with a rather cool light,” he said and went on to describe that the glow increased in intensity as the ambient light decreased. Seeing how this speculation is based on of in-store signage, it’s unclear how the B&N version will work but it must be similar. The signage advertises a Nook Simple Touch Reader with GlowLight.

The timing is right for a new Nook reader. The last generation was introduced on June 1, 2011. The new hardware is probably done. B&N is likely putting the final touches on the marketing plan and will release the new models within the coming weeks.

Cybook prepping Odyssey reader with High Speed Ink System screen

It looks like Bookeen may finally be through teasing us — the company is preparing to unleash the Odyssey, a reader sporting its High Speed Ink System. The modified Pearl E Ink screen has been shown off multiple times, playing back video and browsing the web. Now it will finally make the transition from interesting tech demo to actual product.
