Latest leak suggests Nokia EOS to pack 41MP camera, possible metallic variant also spotted

Latest leak suggest Nokia EOS PureView to pack 41MP camera, possible variant also spotted

We gotta say, originally we weren’t very confident in the above alleged spy shots of the rumored Nokia EOS smartphone, but after talking to the leakster from Sina Weibo, we think we got this figured out. First of all, there are two parts here: the paint-less camera cover plate that now says “41 megapixel” — the same camera resolution featured on the 808 PureView — instead of “XX megapixel,” and a metallic chassis of the EOS phone. But the latter (pictured center and right) looks slightly different to the other leaks we’ve come across so far: the bump is significantly smaller, and the holes inside don’t match the ones on the cover plate. If you look even closer, the pin hole for what seems to be a SIM slot at the top is now on the other side of the slot.

Judging by his background and track record so far (he claims he also leaked the red EOS factory photos), we have reason to believe that this leakster does have a good source on the factory floor. Hence our two assumptions: either this chassis is an early engineering sample, or that this is a metallic variant of the plastic EOS. You know, like what the Lumia 925 is to the Lumia 920. We’ve been promised a few more photos in the coming days, and hopefully they’ll unravel more mystery before Nokia lets the cat out of the bag next month.

Don’t Expect To See New iPhone Or iPad Hardware At WWDC, The Loop Advises, But New Macs Possible

wwdc13-about-main

The Loop’s Jim Dalrymple is probably the best-connected Apple blogger on the planet at the moment, so when he posts an entry called “WWDC Expectations,” the entire community’s ears perk up. The annual Apple developer conference is only a couple of weeks away, and there’s been lots of speculation about what we might see. Dalrymple brings us back to earth, outlining pretty clearly what we will or won’t see.

WWDC, otherwise known as the Worldwide Developers Conference, is for developers, Dalrymple rightly reminds us, and that’s where we’ll see the bulk of the keynote focused. Those hoping for a new iPhone or iPad will have to wait a while longer, according to his report, but we won’t see a complete lack of new hardware.

The Loop says to look to the Mac family as a source of some fresh products at WWDC. That makes sense, given recent reports that MacBook Air stock at retail outlets in particular is dwindling, and given that we haven’t seen an update on that front since June last year. Apple also introduced the 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro at WWDC last June, so that’s another area where we might see an update, though it did just receive some mid-cycle changes back in February.

Other sources have said that we will see new MacBook Pro and Retina MacBook Pro refreshes at WWDC, and that Mac notebook refreshes will be the key focus in terms of hardware developments at the event.

Dalrymple quickly changes gears to what he believes will be the highlight of the show, which is on the software side. iOS and OS X will definitely be a highlight, he suggests, though he does caution that the changes on the iOS 7 side, which are rumored to be guided by Apple design lead Jony Ive and are said to be quite considerable, might not be as extreme as they are being characterized by some early reports.

The report closes by flagging deeper service integration between iOS and OS X, as bridged by things like iCloud that tie the two platforms together. Apple has definitely been moving in that direction in recent iterations of both its mobile and desktop OS, so that would not come as a surprise.

Apple has already done its best to manage expectations for this event without giving anything away, with CEO Tim Cook setting sights squarely on the fall and 2014 for new product launches during a recent conference call. Short of an official press release detailing its agenda, it doesn’t get much better than a post from The Loop in terms of giving us an even more accurate picture of what’s on the docket for the WWDC keynote.

Is it possible for robots to duplicate organ systems of the body?

Question by Shony B: Is it possible for robots to duplicate organ systems of the body?
Are there/could there be robots that duplicate all or any of the organ systems within the human body? Do you know of any current or previous research? Where can I find information on why (or why not) robots are able to duplicate human organ systems?

Best answer:

Answer by gintable
Of course it is possible, the real question is: is it practical?

#1: not really energy efficient to duplicate digestion and respiratory organs. Robots do not need to undergo digestion and respiration to get an energy source when electricity is so much easier to supply.

#2: the human nervous system (and all systems) are too complex for the masters of robotics to fully comprehend. In fact, the main goal of research in robotics is to reproduce the nervous system and muscle systems in robots. All other systems are too boring and not useful to us.

#3: not consuming material for energy implies no material for a reproductive system to use as feedstock. This means no active genetailia and no active robotic uteri. The equivalents of these are factories. Robots have family situations more like that of insect colonies than humans, one queen reproduction body and every other body is a worker.

To Infinity And Beyond!: Physicists Suggest A Star Trek Warp Drive May Be Possible, Have Already Begun Testing

star-trek-warp-drive.jpg

In ‘f \*\*\* yeah, science’ news, current computations executed by physicists suggest a space-time bending warp drive might be more possible than formerly thought, and many scientists have already started testing the principle on a small scale. I have so many boners today.

An idea for a real-life warp drive was suggested in 1994 by Mexican physicist Miguel Alcubierre; however, subsequent calculations discovered that such a gadget would certainly need expensive quantities of energy.

Now physicists state that adjustments can easily be made to the proposed warp drive that would allow it to operate on considerably less energy, potentially bringing the idea back from the world of science fiction into science.

An Alcubierre warp drive would include a football-shape spacecraft affixed to a large ring encircling it. This ring, potentially composeded of unique matter, would certainly trigger space-time to contort around the starship, creating an area of contracted room in front of it and broadened space behind.

At the same time, the starship itself would stay inside a bubble of flat space-time that wasn’t being deformed at all.

Pay attention: if we make a warp drive a reality I solemnly swear to reclaim all the impolite things I have actually ever said about humankind. Well, all the things related to not caring about science anyways. All the fat and greedy things stays.

Thanks to Mike, FloorMatt, Nick, PaintedDeath, Jennifer and Ghimley, who agree the quicker we create this thing they quicker I can get off this rock and into the double-bosom of some area alien.
