NASA Curiosity rover digs Mars, finds sulfur, chlorine and organic traces of unknown origin
Since NASA’s Interest rover made its way to Mars, it’s been delivering back a wide range of information from our rust-colored planetary neighbor: landscape images, radiation readings as well as proof of liquefied water. We could now add soil composition to the list, as Curiosity came to be Planet’s very first site visitor to the Red World to both gather and analyze Martian soil on its very own.
Exactly what’s Mars made from? Well, after scooping up some loose sand, Curiosity’s Sample Analysis at Mars (SAM) suite and the Chemistry and Mineralogy (CheMin) instruments located a menagerie of chemicals, consisting of sulfur, chlorine, and traces of carbon-based materials. Don’t get carried away thinking there’s life on Mars just yet, nonetheless, because NASA’s boffins aren’t sure the natural particles are native– they may have originated from Earth on this, or a previous objective. Still, the analysis is a significant step in unlocking Mars’ secrets, and the high quality data resulting from it will certainly keep NASA’s best and brightest busy as Curiosity continues testing Martian dirt in the coming months. Those curious about discovering even more could have a look at the source below or tune into press conference after the break.

How did the origin of life form on earth?
Question by Mister Nerd: How did the origin of life form on earth?

Answer by lovs2jokearound
Physicists estimate the age of the universe at no less than 14 billion years and the age of Earth at around 4.5 billion years. The early Earth was composed of extremely hot liquid rock, even at the surface. No protective ozone layer existed to prevent the surface from being bombarded by UV radiation. The atmosphere was a mix of gases that would be toxic to all forms of life. The hostile conditions of the Earth at this state were unsuitable for life. After hundreds of millions of years the Earth began to cool and solidify. Water collected on the surface, creating vast oceans rich in chemicals. Around 3.8 billion years ago, ocean temperatures dropped and between 3.8 and 2.5 billion years ago, life first appeared.

Maingear Pulse 11 and Origin EON11-S review

COMPUTER gamers looking for a platform that will take a trip with them have lots of choices– current nods go to the Samsung Gamer 7 and the Alienware M17x– but one can rarely call laptops that start at over 9 pounds & ldquo; portable. & rdquo; Let & rsquo; s take a look at something a bit smaller sized, from 2 well understood specialty shop COMPUTER vendors: the 3.7 pound, 11.6-inch Maingear Pulse 11 and Origin EON11-S.

The equipments are rebadged variants of the Clevo W110ER; Clevo is a Taiwanese producer that has actually made its fortunes offering common note pads to better-known specialty shop vendors. If your order hasn’t shipped yet, you’re looking at an upgrade. Now if only we could find a manufacturer willing to hand out free GPU upgrades.

Blue Origin dishes more details on its Bezos-backed spacecraft
Blue Origin typically keeps pretty tight-lipped about its projects. The private space-travel firm claims it prefers to talk about what is has done, rather than what it hopes to do. As such, We recently heard about its “Space Vehicle” (that’s its actual name,) having completed wind-tunnel testing, and now the firm (partly funded by Amazon’s Jeff Bezos) has revealed a little more. The craft in question is a seven-seater, and it took 180 rigorous tests to get to the final design. Blue Origin has been working with NASA under the agency’s CCDev program, which awarded the firm $ 22 million to develop the project. Under the same initiative, Blue Origin is about to start testing on its BE-3 engine thrust chamber, which will help give the BE-3 rocket motor its 100,000 pounds of thrust. Once complete, this engine will be used in the company’s multi-launch vehicle, and is currently on the test stand at NASA’s Stennis Space Center, Mississippi. We’ll spare you the puns about it not being “rocket science”.

Also, to coincide with the release of the new chips, Maingear is updating the design for its F131 tower ($ 1,468 with a 3.1GHz Core i5-3450 and 1GB AMD Radeon HD 7770 GPU), which adds the same VRTX Cooling Technology found in the company’s Shift rig ($ 1,552 for the stock version with the same processor and GPU). Maingear is also adding a new model called the Potenza, with a similar design and the same VRTX cooling, but built on a Mini-ITX motherboard for a svelte 7.4 x 9.25-inch footprint ($ 1,368 for the same config…

Origin PC joins the 11-inch, rebadged gaming laptop party, outs the EON 11-S
Last week may have drawn to a close, but the march of Clevo news continues. On the heels of Maingear announcing an 11-inch gaming notebook, Origin PC is throwing its own ultraportable into the ring: the EON 11-S. Though this is a new model for the company (the smallest laptop it’s ever sold, in fact), it’s not quite fresh to us: this is the same exact Clevo-made notebook Maingear unveiled two days ago, only re-badged under Origin PC’s brand and available in a wider range of colors. As far as performance goes, then, that means you can expect Ivy Bridge processors, a 2GB NVIDIA GT 650M GPU, Optimus graphics-switching technology and a battery rated for 6.5 hours of runtime. In Origin PC’s case, the laptop starts at $ 999 (compared with $ 1,099 for Maingear), though you’ll have to head over to Origin’s site for a breakdown of what specs you’ll be getting at that lower price.

Origin PC EON15-S and EON17-S gaming laptops available now, priced from $1,525
In the market for a beastly portable gaming rig that won’t break the bank? Origin PC today announced availability of its EON15-S and EON17-S gaming laptops, with pricing starting at $ 1,525 and $ 1,576, respectively. You’ll of course still be able to hand over an arm and a leg depending on how you opt to build out your system, but considering that the base model is priced at nearly half the amount its predecessor was when it was announced this time last year, we imagine additions will wield a softer blow than they did in 2011. Both systems include Intel HM77 Ivy Bridge chipsets, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M, 670M or 675M graphics with Optimus power-conservation technology, and a 5.1 ONKYO surround sound system. Both cases offer unique designs, with black, red, silver or custom finishes, and a colorful backlit keyboard. What else could you possibly need? Perhaps a press release and a few more pictures — and we’ve got both for you right here.

Isn’t it ironic that mass scale violence led to the origin of everything?
Question by Thor is a loving God Too.: Isn’t it ironic that mass scale violence led to the origin of everything?
We typically see violence as a destructive force, but on a universal scale it is often quite a creative force.
The Big Bang
The violence inside the cores of stars creating heavier elements from hydrogen.
The unimaginable violence of a supernova explosion creating (the heaviest elements) and spreading all the elements across the universe.
The violence of massive bodies and smaller planets smashing together to build the planets we have now.
The violence of asteroid and comet impacts that brought water (maybe organic molecules) to earth and killed off the dinosaurs to make way for mammals to thrive.
The violence of “red in tooth and claw” natural selection that created us.
It’s rather poetic isn’t it? Out of violence came us.
At least most religions got that part right with their Gods, lol.
“There’s more than one sense of “violent” — the one we really CARE about has to do with harming living things, which, obviously, isn’t what happened”
See part about “death ridden natural section” and then get back to me.

Stuff leftover after the sun forms usually turns into a system of planets. Some of these planets have solid surfaces, perhaps liquid seas and a gaseous atmosphere; a rich environment for atoms and molecules to come together in complex chemical reactions. Carbon atoms in particular, link together to form complex organic molecules and amino acids. Chemical catalysts speed reactions along. The products of one chemical reaction become the raw material for new reactions. At some level of complexity a catalyst became an enzyme, an amino acid chain became a protein, a loop of chemical reactions became a metabolism, and chemistry became … biology. BIOLOGY On our own planet, and perhaps countless others – life arose. The DNA molecule, which is the basis of all organic life on Earth, is more intricate by far than any spiral galaxy – because the structure of DNA contains something new – something that was missing from inanimate matter before the origin of life – it contains information. The DNA molecule encodes not only the information necessary to make copies of itself, but the information necessary to …
