Google draws 25 million new building footprints in Maps, shapes up your neighborhood

Google draws 25 million new building footprints in Maps, shapes up your neighborhood

The fine, well labeled lines of Google Maps could show a clean format of your neighborhood, however without buildings, it looks too much like a two-dimensional spread of undeveloped tract real estate. Google’s finally filling in the spaces, laying out 25 million building impacts in cities all across the United States. Homeowners of Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Houston, Detroit and additional cities can easily now see the familiar lays out of their regional stomping ground on the services’ mobile and computer maps. Most of these buildings were algorithmically created from aerial pictures, residents could pen in their own material by using Google Map Maker to include brand-new buildings or tag their favorite regional eatery. The tweak seems minor, however it certainly makes the common map’s criss-cross of roads look more familiar. Look into the official Google Lat Long blog site below for more information.

Envy Of The Neighborhood: Dr. Who TARDIS Door Decals

tardis-door-decals-1.jpg

This is a set of $ 30 “Police Box” door decals meant to resemble Dr. Who’s TARDIS. Please note: THEY DO NOT MAKE YOUR DOOR BLUE. They’re just the four stickers. You’re gonna have to paint it yourself if you want a more authentic look. Alternatively, rip your front door off the hinges and install a pair of those swinging saloon doors from the wild west. Sure they’re terrible for security, but if a robber wanders in and sees you drinking whiskey next to the minibar with six-shooters in hand, I think you’ll be okay. I know I was. *turns head to hock loogie into spittoon, lands on shoulder* F***ING SHIT.

Hit the jump for how disastrous an unpainted, molded panel door looks like with the things.

Synology DS1511+ does the 3TB-per-drive dance, backs up most of your neighborhood

Once one network attached storage manufacturer upgraded to 3TB hard drives, it was only a matter of time before the rest followed suit, and this time it’s Synology’s turn with the DiskStation DS1511+. In case you haven’t done the math already, this particular unit can store up to 15 terabytes of your juiciest secrets across five 3TB hot-swappable drives, and its 1.8GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of memory handles a RAID 5 array capable of speeding that data across a local area network at up to 197 MB / sec read speeds and 165 MB / sec writes. If that capacity isn’t enough to house your plan for world domination and monitor all the IP cameras in your underground volcano lair, the unit can scale up to 45TB with a couple of secondary expansion units, each with five more 3TB drives of their own. Yours for roughly $ 900 — sans storage — wherever NAS are sold. PR after the break.
