T-Mobile myTouch and myTouch Q officially revealed, we go hands-on

TMobile myTouch and myTouch Q officially announced, we go handson

T-Mobile’s myTouch set is back with a new pair of gadgets– a slate and a slideout QWERTY, to be exact– and the fortunate producer this time around is Huawei, following in the footprints made by HTC and LG in years past. Of course, we can not state that this is a great deal of a shocker, considering we’ve seen these midrange mobiles undergo limitless rounds of reports, FCC accreditation and even our incredibly own hands-ons when visiting Huawei HQ (where the tools are recognized more officially as the Ascend G312 and G312 QWERTY). But they’re finally ready for the final manufacturing line and will be available August 8th for $ 50 after a $ 50 mail-in rebate. The myTouch will certainly come in black and dark red, while the myTouch Q will certainly be supplied in black and white.

So just what kind of specs can we anticipate to enjoy (or highly dislike, depending on your personal taste) on the myTouch and myTouch Q? It’s running Android 2.3 on a special personalized UI, for starters, which will be a significant frustration to lots of potential purchasers. Additionally, both tools will certainly deliver a 4-inch WVGA screen, 1,500 mAh battery, 4GB of internal storage space, microSD development, 5MP rear camera capable of taking 720p video presentation, 0.3 MP front-facing cam, HSPA + connectivity and an unspecified 1.4 GHz CPU (though we reported earlier that it must be a single-core MSM8255T accompanied by 1GB of RAM). Head below to explore our gallery and hands-on video, and then proceed reviewing after the break to hear our first impressions.

Leaked T-Mobile roadmap outlines Ice Cream Sandwich updates, new myTouch devices

Leaked T-Mobile roadmap outlines Ice Cream Sandwich updates, new myTouch devices

Looks like our friends over at TMoNews have unearthed a roadmap with some tasty morsels of info about what’s coming down the pipe from T-Mobile USA in the next few months. Of course, none of this is set in stone or even confirmed, so take it with a grain of salt.

Most interesting is a pair of dates for Ice Cream sandwich updates, with Magenta’s Galaxy S II slated to receive Android 4.0 on May 14th, followed by the Sensation 4G and Amaze 4G getting ICS (with Sense 3.6, presumably) on June 16th.

A bunch of device launches from Samsung and Huawei round up the list of dates, with no sign of HTC’s One X, Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S III, or T-Mobile’s rumored Galaxy Note variant. Sadness. Check out the entire bounty below.

  • May 9th: Huawei Astor (low-end phone for 7-Eleven)
  • July 11th: Huawei Buddy and Phoenix (myTouch QWERTY and slate, respectively)
  • July 11th: Samsung Gravity TXT (new color)
  • Aug 1st: Samsung T159 Cacao (low-end handset)
  • Aug 15th: Samsung Apex Q (mystery device)

Huawei Ascend G 132 lands at FCC, unsurprisingly sports T-Mobile myTouch moniker

Image

It’s far from a secret that T-Mobile has been cooking up its next myTouch handset with Huawei (also known as the Ascend G 132), and now the phone has landed at the door of the FCC. According to the label location diagrams, it plays nice with HSPA, UMTS, GPRS, GSM and Edge, but there’s no indication of whether this is the QWERTY variant we spotted at the company’s headquarters. If you’ll recall, Huawei has this 4-inch (WVGA) device pegged to ship with Android Ice Cream Sandwich, running atop a 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8255T SoC with 1GB of RAM that’s supplemented by 4GB of on-board storage. Of course, this doesn’t leave us with any more information about when T-Mobile will officially debut this next-gen myTouch, but for now, you can can view the currently available FCC documents at the source link below.

T-Mobile’s next myTouch to come from Huawei?

The Magenta carrier’s pumped out its fair share of myTouch handsets in the past months, and we can’t blame you if you’re confused by the fact that different OEMs have had their turn making the devices. Now, if a report by PocketNow is to be believed, the next phone maker in line is the same one that brought you that T-Mobile Springboard. And, if we take into consideration Huawei’s recent push towards the US market, it wouldn’t surprise us to see T-Mo’s future myTouch lineup coming from the Chinese outfit. Allegedly, the device(s) will come in two Gingerbread-packing flavors, one of which is said to be sporting physical QWERTY keys — à la the 4G Slide. While we know some of you are ready to part ways with the ol’ timer 3G variant, it may be a while before the purported U8680 and U8730 are the real deal. Good news is MWC isn’t exactly giving you a shortage of options.

Powermat accompanies MyTouch 4G Slide at retail launch, or so the manufacturer says

If you’ve already misplaced the charging cable for your MyTouch 4G Slide, then it’s time to hustle back to your local T-Mobile retailer, where the new QWERTY handset is joined at its in-store launch by Powercube’s inductive charging cover. Sure, your bank account just received $ 200 worth of hurt, but if you’ve got a $ 90 buffer on your credit card, what’s an extra $ 30 for the shell and $ 60 for the Powermat, especially if it means keeping your phone alive? Sadly, both stores we called didn’t have the cover, so you might want to give Magenta a buzz beforehand, although T-Mo’s website is ready to take your money. No matter how you get it, you’ll still need to keep the base station from getting buried under pizza boxes and laundry, but we know you’re up to the task. Follow after the break for a slice of the PR.
