You can change the dashboard so it displays percentage state of charge, torque, drivetrain component temperatures, battery amps and more during Riding Mode, and after the ride’s over you can flip over to Statistics Mode to get stats like how much gas money you might’ve wasted if you weren’t riding a Zero. If you don’t have one, you can still play with the app in Demo mode just to see how it works. The app pairs with the bike over Bluetooth and is available for free from both the App Store and Google Play.

The choices in the electric motorbike market simply keep getting juicier, and while you’ll still need to stick with the more established brands like Brammo, Zero or BRD if you’re wanting to make an acquisition, a hot new prototype has just been revealed that threatens to make them all look a bit … pedestrian. It’s called the Roskva from a group of 5 pupils at the University of Life Sciences (UMB) in Oslo, Norway. Like a MotoGP bike it has an all carbon fiber unified frame and bodywork that weighs less than 25kg and even rolls on carbon tires. A 94HP motor provides the oomph and delivers a top speed of about 112MPH, with a the greatest selection of 62 miles. No word on when or if the thing could make it into real production, however we can say for sure that there’s a second image of the thing just awaiting you right after the break, still in that same garage that is far, far neater than ours.

XCOR Lynx propulsion tech tests well on motorcycle, suborbital trip still pricey

Before parting with $ 95,000 to secure a spot on the Lynx suborbital flight, you’d want to make sure the spacecraft was safe, right? XCOR doesn’t blame you: it recently tested out its piston pump technology on a Triumph Street Triple motorcycle with great results. Sure, it’s not the same as flying to the edge of space, but the Triumph has the same cylinder arrangement as the Lynx’s liquid oxygen and kerosene fuel pumps and develops a similar amount of horsepower. It’s also loads cheaper than testing in the laboratory. The bike took a 20-hour drive (the equivalent of 400 Lynx flights, according to XCOR) along Route 66 without the piston pump suffering any wear and tear. So if propulsion-related safety concerns — and not the depth of your wallet — were holding you back from nabbing a seat on the Lynx, you might feel a tad more inclined to whip out the plastic now. What The — I’d Be Sending A Thank-You: Man Sues BMW Claiming Motorcycle Ride Gave Him 20-Month Erection

Henry Wolf went on a four-hour motorcycle ride in September 2010 and claims he’s had a constant erection ever since. Gee, maybe you have a thing for motorcycles — you ever think about that? But now Mr. Wolf has hired a lawyer (read: boner chaser) and is suing BMW and the manufacturer of the seat (Corbin-Pacific) for damages because he’s been left “unable to engage in sexual activities.” What the?! Isn’t a boner actually THE ONE THING YOU DO NEED to engage in sexual activities? You can’t go blaming BMW for being socially awkward.

Thanks to FloorMatt and Michael-C, who heard through the grapevine that motorcycles give me boners too but you won’t hear me complaining about it unless this dude actually wins in which case OW OW OW MY EYE.

Lumus’ OE-31 optical engine turns motorcycle helmets, other eyewear into wearable displays

After showing off a duo of wearable, see-through displays at CES, Lumus is back with a second optical engine — one that could be used in any style of frames, from prescription glasses to ski goggles. Available in binocular and monocular configurations, the tiny OE-31 sensor weighs just 10 grams (.35 ounces), allowing it to accommodate a variety of form factors besides your run-of-the mill (and quite dorky-looking) 3D glasses. As always, Lumus’ hook is its ability to combine head up displays, augmented reality and see-through displays, though this time around the sensor allows for a 19-degree field of view and a full-color, 640 x 360 picture. Though that’s not as impressive as the 720p, 3D-capable frames on offer at CES, the company argues it should be adequate for reading text, particularly since the viewing experience will be comparable to starting at a 40-inch screen from 10 feet away. No word, of course, on where we might see these discreet head up displays turn up, though maybe, just maybe, we’ll catch a demo in Barcelona. For now, we’ve got photos below along with a handful of demo videos after the break.
