Time Lapse Of 16-Bit Metroid Mother Brain Finale Getting An Artist’s High Definition Photoshop Overhaul

Note: Respectable size shot of the end product BELOW.

This is a time-lapse video (after the jump– that’s jut a animated gif above in case you’re someone’s mother reading this) of DeviantARTist Elemental79 (of DOOM screenshot to high res photo popularity) turning a composite 16-bit scene from Super Metroid into a high-res art piece. I, for one, would be honored to hang a print of that in my living room. Specifically over the hole in the wall I made throwing my Playstation controller during a temper outburst. In case you care:.

In order to provide the screenshot a 16×9 aspect proportion this is not a real screenshot from the game, but made up of numerous screenshots and sprite sets. Included in this scene is a metroid, which is not precise to the game, but believable because there wouldn’t be a rational main reason that one could not wander into Mother Brain’s space (And I actually wanted to remake the metroid).

To respond to some concerns I’ve gotten, the image took in between 50 and 60 hours and had well over 500 layers. I didn’t actually take note of either. I likewise didn’t do this in one sitting but over the course of a few weeks.

Fifty to sixty hours– that’s some serious commitment. Perhaps not as committed as I am to the cause of animal rescue, however not everybody can invest their extra time being a hero. You know how many cats I have? Six. “I thought you were going to say more than that.” THOUSAND. Numerous that when I put their food out I can’t inform which method is up.

Struck the jump for the video.

Damn Mother Nature, You Crueler Than My Old Day Care: Man Frees Mouse, Immediately Snatched Up By Hawk

Note: Every screencap I tried to take sucked, you’ll just have to spend the minute watching the video. Or not, I’m not here to tell you what to do, I’m here to report your activity to the boss.

This is a video of a guy releasing the mouse he managed to capture that had been plaguing his sleep for the past week. Unfortunately for Mickey, he barely gets 30-feet before being snatched up by a hawk. Mother Nature: she’s a cold, cruel mistress. And an even colder lover. No lie, one time she and I were making out in the back of Father Time’s station wagon and when I touched her boob my whole hand got frostbite. Then she started unbuttoning my pants so I faked an asthma attack and ran home.

Kickstarter: This Rubber Band Shotgun Is The Mother Of All Rubber Band Shotguns

ae0b4079cf7068a9fd7535d7e219385c_large

Imagine it ’ s Thanksgiving early morning and you ’ re with the household. You slip down the stairs, Sheriff in hand, and sneak in on dear old daddy as he makes bacon pancakes. You set your weapon on “ shotgun ” and pull the trigger. A volley of hot rubber whangs him in the legs, his old frame buckling as he takes the chance. An additional kill. All this could be yours with the Bandit, an automated elastic band weapon built for performance and (mild) discomfort infliction. The project, produced by Bob Coulston, is a DIY, easy-to-assemble elastic band firearm that can easily fire solitary bands, multiple bands in quick succession, or all the bands instantly, developing a hellstorm of flying bands.

The Outlaw model supports just solitary tries at a time while the Sheriff could be put into shotgun mode. The kit comes with all the laser-cut parts you should set up the gun and it ’ s held together with a couple of bolts.

Coulston explains the genesis of the firearm thusly:

The idea of Bandit Weapons was created when my three children Kelsey, Macy, and Bobby (now 14, 11, and 9 years old) boiled down in the wood shop while I was constructing a set of cabinets for a customer. Thrilled, they asked me if I can help them make an elastic band firearm. Remembering all the enjoyable I had with my rubber band gun that my father allowed for me, I eliminated 3 blocks of wood that somewhat looked like a gun and attached a clothespin to the top with a notch on the front of the barrel for the elastic band to hook into. I revealed them ways to load it and fire at a piece of wood sitting at the end of the workbench. Bobby stated, ” Single go, Pop? Dull, I wish to make my very own elastic band firearm! ” He understands he can ’ t utilize the power devices so that got me to thinking of just how I could develop a kit that he might assemble and would make him feel as if he made it himself but, still cool enough that his friends would wish one too. That was the start, after the first style having over 50 parts and not even working. Roughly 100 variations later on the Bandit Weapon was produced with just what you see today. Being a children at heart, I most likely use the Bandit Weapon much more than they do.

He is way over his objective of $ 5,000 and there are only 16 even more days to pledge. I ’ d personally advise purchasing the $ 300 bundle that gets you 10 Sheriff weapons so you and your prolonged family members could invest the next year offering each other (mild) welts as you set about your day-to-day business.

Sail That Mother Into My Yard!: Pirate Ship Fire Pit

Yaaaar — set sail for smores!

That…is a nice setup. To the right of the ship you can even see some swords for roasting hot dogs/marshmallows/squirrels. So yeah, this pirate ship fire pit: you want it, I want it, let’s go steal it. Then we can alternate ownership on weekends — I’ll even let you have the first one! “You’re gonna call the police on me, aren’t you?” Already hid a dead body on your property to seal the deal.

Thanks to my buddy Terry, who I refuse to go camping with anymore because he never puts up his tent until it’s dark and too late and then wants to share mine. He’s a creeper.

How I Met Your Robot Mother: a Qbo ‘First’ (video)

Is consciousness programmable? Do robots feel? Would Kubrick have approved of Spielberg’s handling of AI? While you wrap your mind around those conundrums, set aside a bit of free grey matter to soak in another Qbo milestone. When last we left the little bot, it was just coming to terms with its place in the grand scheme of things and recognizing its reflection. Since, robotic hangers-on and the geeks that love’em have been pelting The Corpora (the brains behind the operation) with questions pertaining to the self-awareness of this artificially intelligent machine. The outfit’s reply? A Qbo meet-cute with a “female” member of the automated species that highlights the droid’s understanding of individuality. It’s a far cry from a Lady and the Tramp-style nose nuzzle, but these bots don’t have to touch — a random series of nasal flashes serve to indicate their distinctiveness and, once that’s done, polite flirtation ensues. Don’t believe us? You can see the sparks of android love for yourself in the video after the break.

Scientists capture birth of new planet on camera, mother and child doing just fine

After all the pushing, squeezing and screaming, the universe has finally given birth to a new planet, in an eruption that two scientists managed to capture on film. The newborn pile of planetary pudge, named LkCa 15 b, was discovered by Drs. Michael Ireland and Adam Kraus, who, over the course of 12 months, successfully documented the event using Keck telescopes and a technique called aperture mask interferometry. Their findings, published in Astrophysical Journal describe a Jupiter-like gaseous planet that likely began forming some 50,000 to 100,000 years ago. Located about 450 light years from Earth, it’s also the youngest planet ever observed, having dethroned the previous record-holder, which was about five times older. According to Ireland and Kraus, the LkCa 15 b is still being formed out of a circle of dust and gas (pictured above) surrounding a 2-million-year-old star. By observing a “young gas giant in the process of formation,” the researchers hope to find answers to fundamental questions that have long eluded them. “These very basic questions of when and where are best answered when you can actually see the planet forming, as the process is happening right now,” Kraus explained to the AP. Head past the break to see an artist’s rendering of the newborn, and if you get the chance, be sure to send flowers.
