LG Optimus L9 for T-Mobile emerges from the magenta mist

Looks like the Optimus G isn’t the only smartphone from LG that’ll soon hit United States carriers, as its likewise sized (yet slower) sibling has simply been outed for T-Mobile. True to form, the price and release date of the Optimus L9 are wholly absent from the equation, but beyond any considerable tweaks, consumers could rightfully expect an Android 4.0.4 smartphone with a 4.7-inch qHD display that’s powered by a dual-core 1GHz CPU. In its international version, the unit also sports a 5-megapixel camera, 4GB of inbuilt storage space and a 2,150 mAh battery, which supplies a rough standard of what’s on the horizon at T-Mobile. Naturally, there are more powerful smartphones to be discovered, however if the rate is right, the Optimus L9 may hit a sweet spot for lots of.

Project Magenta aims to create open-source iOS clone

Developer Christina B is working to recreate iPhone OS 1 for generic hardware with Project Magenta: a port of Apple’s open-source Darwin operating system. Darwin is the foundation for iOS, and Christina plans on developing a clone of Apple’s mobile platform using open-source alternatives to its proprietary stack. The Darwin port sits atop a standard Linux kernel and will run on any ARMv7-based chip. Christina doesn’t plan to implement the necessary high-level frameworks to support running iOS apps, although she says the CoreOS should be 99-100 percent compatible.
There is of course a possibility that another developer could add in the high-level frameworks and thus make the port compatible with iOS apps. Christina B doesn’t seem too keen…

Nokia: Lumia 900 will be available in magenta, at some point

Following a leak from Finnish retailer Gigantti, Nokia has confirmed that it will release a magenta version of its flagship Lumia 900 smartphone. According to Gigantti’s listing of the model, first spotted by e’s Phoneblog, the new color will be available with HSPA+ connectivity in Finland at some point during May. A Nokia spokesperson told us that the Lumia 900 will come to market in Magenta, but was unable to “confirm any timings” or specify “which countries the magenta version would be available in at this time.” Assuming Gigantti’s date is accurate, we don’t think it’s too much to hope for a wider release sometime soon.

The Radar’s arrival in this world was overshadowed by the massive Titan released on the same day. But if a batch of spy shots sent to TmoNews is to be believed, then this mid-specced 3.8-inch Windows Phone could be about to get some much needed 4G pep on T-Mobile’s network. The photos also reveal plenty of magenta branding, Tango video calling and of course Mango running under the hood. Further corroboration probably won’t come til we detect an HSPA+ Radar at the FCC, but with some decent 6/7Mbps real-world download speeds and hopefully some mobile hotspot action this could well be a device worth having.
