Not A Lovedoll: Life-Size Zelda Papercraft Model

lifesize-zelda.jpg

Because paper Link need a lady, this is a life-size Zelda papercraft sculpture built by DeviantARTist minidelirium using the template created by PaperJuke, which you can download HERE if you want to build her yourself. Of course minidelirium said she took 226 hours to complete, so you might want to quit your job and clear your social calendar.

the cutting took 88h and the folding and building took 138h. I made a big mistake in the beginning and printed her on 120g paper, so I had to do it all over again in 160g and 200g paper. I’m very satisfied with the result and look forward to giving her to a distant friend. she is about 170cm tall.

WHOA — do you think I’m that distant friend he’s talking about giving it to?! If papercraft Zelda showed up at my door one day I would die. Although, even if she doesn’t show up at my door I’ll die. Mortality, folks — we all have to deal with it. Haha, psyche I’m a WIZZZAAAAAARD.

Hit the jump for a bunch more of the impressiveness.

Inhabitat’s Week in Green: solar panel printer, gold producing bacteria and a life-size of horse made of computer keys

Each week our friends at Inhabitat recap the week’s most interesting green developments and clean tech news for us — it’s the Week in Green.

DNP Inhabitat's Week in Green tktktk

Inhabitat is always interested in finding innovative uses for old technology, and this week we saw artists and designers from around the world produce new things from old, unused or outmoded gadgets. In Osaka, a local goldfish club has been transforming old phone booths into gigantic public fish tanks. In another large-scale art installation, Babis Panagiotidis used 18,000 recycled computer keys to make a life-size rocking horse. London artist Leonardo Ulian also makes beautiful, ornate mandalas from bits and pieces of old circuitry. And Benjamin Yates makes his unique coffee tables from recycled circuit boards, old VCRs and computer components.

Please Tell Me You Cut That With a Lightsaber: 500-Pound, Life-Size Standing Darth Vader Cake

vader-cake-1.jpg

This is a 500-pound, six-foot seven-inch Darth Vader cake created by Amanda Oakleaf Cakes, the same folks that made the 300-pound Stormtrooper one earlier this year. Not gonna lie, I probably would have jump-kicked his head off the same way I do my snowmen after they don’t come to life. Even with black magic, WTF!

He was served at the 501st Legion Banquet on Friday night as part of the Star Wars Celebration VI event. In total he weighed just over 500 lbs, stood 6 feet 7 inches tall, and fed 600 hungry Legion members. The most interesting and challenging part of this cake was actually the cape, which by itself was over 100 lbs of our marshmallow fondant, which freely hung from his shoulders five and a half feet above the ground. Also of note is Vader’s light saber, which was a single, solid piece of watermelon flavored poured sugar.

Total Ingredients:

386 eggs
2 gallons milk
3.5 cups vanilla
118 cups/ 32 lbs flour
103 cups/ 46 lbs sugar
57 lbs butter
210 lbs of our home-made marshmallow fondant

Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Because I’m thinking F*** I COULD REALLY GO FOR SOME CAKE AND ICE CREAM RIGHT NOW. Instead all I’ve got is some cottage cheese that expired Sunday and the spicy pickle-in-a-bag I’ve been saving for a special occasion. A VERY special occasion, if you catch my drift. I’m talking about my first kiss! I hope it’s a girl.

Guy Creates Life-Size Functional WALL-E Robot

homemade-wall-e.jpg

Mike Senna of California spent an estimated 3,200 – 3,800 hours over two and a half years building this full-scale, functional WALL-E robot from scratch. He talks, rolls around, moves his arms and eyeballs, but can’t compact trash. He will melt your heart though. Probably with a hidden laser blaster. Never trust the cute ones.

Abandoned Farm House Turned Into Life-Size Dollhouse

human-dollhouse-1.jpg

This is an abandoned ranch home that musician Heather Benning became a human-sized dollhouse (offered a human-sized dollhouse is simply a routine residence with no wall on one side). Pretty neat, right? Individually, I would certainly have turned the farm home into a blazing inferno with a little assistance from my friend gas, however that’s merely me and I’m more of an avant-garde design of musician. “You’re a pyro.” I ‘M AVANT-GARDE, DAMMIT. “No, you just like to enjoy things explode and burn.” I swear, one more word out of you and … “And just what ?!” \* jams M-80 down the back of your pants \* AND I ‘LL SEE YOUR BUTTCHEEKS IN HELL, MWAHAHAHAHAHA! However genuinely, you know exactly what the worst part about residing in a dollhouse is? “Attempting to masturbate with all the titans viewing?” Bingo.

Lifesize Papercraft Link From Legend Of Zelda

paper-link-1.jpg

This isn’t the first lifesize papercraft Link we’ve seen, it’s just the first one we’ve seen outdoors. Created by DeviantARTist stuioofmm (aka Michaela Something), it’s always nice to see a character in their natural element. Mine? My natural element is in the middle of a epic battle box of Girl Scout Cookies. :/

Link is a life size papercraft model standing around 5’5. He is made completely from 250 gsm paper (about 4x stronger then normal paper). He has foam core supports in the top and bottom of his pants, top and bottom of his boots and a ring in his waist. There is also some in the back of his shield, and in the handle of the master sword.

Link is made from 250+ pages, the initial template is 198, but there are layers of strips of paper inside for support, and 831 pieces. I worked on him constantly for a month, working approximately 12 hours each day but sometimes that number could go up to 20.

Not gonna lie, when I first saw a thumbnail picture I thought he was a giant piƱata. “Haha — you would, GW!” I would what — hit that? All night long. Or him me, I don’t care. I swing every which-way, including blindfolded. What can I say, I’m kinky. “Pfft, blindfolds aren’t even kinky.” They are when you’re banging tree-people!

Hit the jump for several more shots and a link to the artist’s DeviantART with high-res versions.

Mazda to build a life-size Scalextric track that features real cars at the Goodwood Festival of Speed

Attending the Goodwood Festival of Speed at West Sussex this weekend? No, me neither. To bad too because Mazda is apparently construction an automated full-size Scalextric track that will feature full-size Mazda cars. Hopefully none of them will fly off the track when rounding the bends like my slot cars always did.

The track, part of the 20-year MX-5 celebration, will feature a 1990 Miate, a 2000 10th anniversary edition and a California Special edition along with a handful of other notable models. Hopefully some fun videos will appear shortly showing off what sounds like a really fun exhibit at Goodwood.
