Nokia’s new Bluetooth ‘Treasure Tag’ will prevent you from ever losing your keys again

Nokiatreasuretag1_640_large

Nokia is preparing to launch a proximity sensor accessory for its range of Lumia Windows Phones. Sources familiar with Nokia’s plans have revealed to The Verge that the Finnish smartphone maker will debut a “Treasure Tag” accessory that combines Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC to track items from a phone. The Treasure Tag will pair with Lumia Windows Phones via NFC, and Nokia will ship the device with a loop strap to attach it to a set of keys.

The basic idea is to let Windows Phone users track items with a special application and the small square Treasure Tag accessory. Tile, a recently funded Kickstarter project, is very similar in concept to Nokia’s device, and works with Apple’s iPhone. Nokia has built a Treasure Tag application for Windows…

In 2013, the keys to Android are still held by the carriers

20120320-dsc06062_large

Just under two years ago, HTC’s CEO responded to public pressure by making an equally public promise: “We will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices.” Today, that promise is only half-kept by HTC, while other manufacturers have an even spottier record when it comes to keeping the Android ecosystem as “open” as its intended reputation. The bootloaders are locked, and the carriers are holding the keys.

The bootloader, if you’re unfamiliar, is basically the low-level bit of software on a computer that allows the rest of the operating system to start up — a nerdy little piece of code that turns out to be important if you want to tinker with the phone to make it do what you want. If the bootloader is locked, you can’t put…

Corsair unveils $130 Vengeance K70 gaming keyboard with backlit keys

DNP Corsair unveils $ 130 Vengeance K70 gaming keyboard with keybykey backlighting

Just a few months after Corsair revealed its high-end K95 mechanical gaming keyboard, the company has unveiled a slightly lower-end K70 for those who want to save a bit of money. Essentially an upgrade to the K60, the K70 still has those Cherry MX Red mechanical switches, but each key is now individually backlit — the backlighting can be adjusted to four levels of intensity and can be independently enabled or disabled. Other features include 20-key rollover, a 1000Hz reporting rate, contoured keycaps for WASD keys, dedicated multimedia controls, a detachable wrist rest and an extra USB connector. The K70 will be available in April for $ 130 in two different color schemes; silver aluminium with blue backlight and anodized black with deep red backlight.

The Seaboard: A Keyboard With Soft, Mushy Keys That Lets You Control Pitch, Volume And Timbre Via Touch

squish-keyboard-seaboard.jpg

This is a video of the ROLI Seaboard, a new mushy-keyed keyboard that allows you to control more of the output than you could on a traditional keyboard thanks to pressure-sensitive keys. I’m not even going to pretend like I understand any of this because if there’s two things I don’t get, it’s music and technology. “But you’re the Geekologie Writer!” Haha, I’m in a band too.

Evolved from the piano keyboard, the Seaboard is a new musical instrument which bridges the gap between acoustic and digital music by putting the control of pitch, volume and timbre right at your fingertips.

The patent-pending SEA Interface is ROLI’s disruptive platform sensor technology. SEA stands for Sensory, Elastic and Adaptive. SEA Interfaces are highly precise, information-rich, and pressure-sensitive, and can be built in any form factor. They enable seamless transitions between discrete and continuous input, and capture three-dimensional gestures while simultaneously providing the user with tactile feedback.

I dunno, could be cool. Probably not as cool as that giant keyboard Tom Hanks jumps around on in ‘Big’, but what is? I actually went to a bar a couple weekends ago that had a Zoltar fortune telling machine and I made a wish to get rich but then the piece of shit took my money without giving me a fortune. So like, the exact opposite happened. I took four shots in 10-minutes.

Hit the jump for a video of the thing getting played LIKE A CHUMP. You know she got another man!

BlackBerry Creative Director Alicia Keys tweets from iPhone, pins blame on hackers

Alicia Keys BlackBerry Thorsten Heins (STOCK)

BlackBerry announced pop music star Alicia Keys as its new Global Creative Director to great fanfare during its launch of BlackBerry 10 late last month, but if a tweet posted by Keys today is any indication, she may not be being that faithful to the new platform. The superstar was caught tweeting “Started from the bottom now were here!” from the Twitter for iPhone app this morning, despite her promise to The New York Times that she was exclusive to BlackBerry 10 now. The original tweet has since been deleted, and Keys has followed up with not an apology, but rather a claim that she was hacked and didn’t post the tweet in question. It’s hard to say for sure whether or not Keys is telling the truth and someone with her password decided to…
