In the beginning of Vergecraft, The Verge’s own Minecraft server, we lived the simple life. Newbies constructed ranches and fences to safeguard from the fresh, untamed wilderness. Iron was more priceless than gold. And Paul Miller was still on the net.
Times have changed, and we’re all matured now: from stretching cities, to concealed holy places, to an oceanic Mega-Pyramid inspired by a crazy Japanese architectural idea, the players of Vergecraft have actually collectively put in hundreds of hours of play time to develop a digital civilization. Now, it’s time to celebration. At 8PM ET today we’re going to have a birthday celebration in Vergecraft’s super exclusive nightclub, Club Void. As we did on the first day, we’ll be blasting tunes from an alternate universe in T.

The war for your living space will warm up. While Microsoft is still keeping its own next-generation console under lock and secret, rival Sony is preparing to take the phase in New york city City and reveal off exactly what it ’ s been working on for the past few years. Normally, we ’ ll be liveblogging the entire thing beginning at 6PM Eastern/3PM Pacific tonight.
Like virtually every various other significant hardware launch in recent memory, the PlayStation 4 (or whatever it ’ s going to be called) has been the topic of scads of suspicious reports and private leakages. Curious code name? Check. Initial glimpses at hardware? Inspect. Unnerving (and ideally misguided) reports that the console gained ’ t play nice with used games? Regretfully, check.
Even now, the report mill persists — Sony may push its next-gen system out the door as quickly as November (with the ability to control it by means of smartphone, no less) if a new report from Kotaku proves out. Still, for while we know (or think we know) about Sony ’ s prepares for tonight, anticipate the company to whip out a couple of surprises to keep the masses planted firmly on the edge of their seats.
That said, at this point it seems extremely unlikely that Sony will pull back the drape on everything it ’ s working on, if only due to the fact that of its questionable track record with keeping guarantees made on stage. One requirement just look at the company ’ s initial PS3 announcement to see that some of the experiences that Sony promised it would give the table just sanctuary ’ t unfolded (or a minimum of, sanctuary ’ t emerged in the way we had actually hoped).
