‘Google Play Games’ uncovered as Android’s home for invites, achievements and more
A Google-built alternative to Game Center on iOS and Games Hub on Windows Phone surfaced last month, and we know even more about it. Android Police dug into a new Play Services (an Android component you don’t access directly, but does things like update Google apps) APK, and found the latest version hid a massive update getting ready for Google Play Games. Although it’s not directly accessible yet, so far it’s revealed support for system wide notifications, standardized notifications managed by Google+, and cloud synced game saves to work across multiple devices. Also built in are the other parts of any modern gaming service like matchmaking, leaderboards, achievements, lobbies and such. Exactly how all this works and how devs will put it to use will probably be revealed next week at Google I/O, but for now there are a few more screenshots beyond the source link.

Samsung invites public to Times Square for its Galaxy S IV unveiling
So, what are you up to on March 14th? If your idea of a good time is seeing a new smartphone unveiled, Samsung’s arranging just such a party at Times Square in New York for the upcoming Galaxy S IV, according to a recent tweet. We’d guess that revelers will get to watch a livestream of the recently announced Samsung Unpacked 2013 shindig for the new handset on the block’s famous big screens, while the event itself happens at Radio City Music hall. There’s no other details other than the @timessquare Twitter handle, but if you’re not in the big apple, you’ll be able to catch it right here instead, of course.

Google Issues Invites To October 29th NYC Android Event, Says “The Playground Is Open”
Google just sent out invites for an October 29th Android event in NYC. The festivities start at 10:00 and the event will also be live streamed on YouTube, seemingly indicating this is a big announcement. The invite sheds little light on the subject matter, but that’s the date long-rumored for the launch of LG Nexus smartphone.
There have been rumblings for several weeks now concerning the next Nexus smartphone. It’s reported to be an LG handset and several product shots have leaked out. Very little is known about the hardware, though, besides that it has a backside that appears to have been bedazzled by a 12-year old. There have also been rumors about a Nexus flagship made by Sony.
There’s also a chance that Google will announce a new range of Nexus 7 tablets, perhaps with a model costing as low as $ 100 and another with 64GB of storage.
The event happens the Monday after Apple’s iPad mini event and the launch of Windows 8 and the Microsoft Surface. Intentional timing? You bet. With every announcement, Google is pushing its own branded hardware more than ever before.
No matter what’s announced, we’ll be there in force, ready to liveblog the action no matter how boring or dull it might be.

Denon launches MC2000 DJ controller, invites prospective spinners to ‘own the party’ (video)
Load and start track A. Load, and start track B on the next down beat. Adjust pitch / speed of track B to keep in time with track A. Now you know the very basics of DJing, you might want some hardware to practice it on. Fortunately, for you beginners, Denon has just released the MC2000 DJ controller. An entry-level device that should get you (and your tracks) up to speed. Along with the plug and play USB device, you’ll get a copy of Serato’s DJ Intro mixing software (for which it was specifically designed) to get you started. If that’s not for you, or perhaps you’ve already earned your spinning stripes, and are looking for something compact, no problem — full MIDI output means this can work with other software options too. There’s a basic two-channel mixer snug between the pair o’wheels, and all the usual buttons for hot-cues and loops etc. As is fast becoming standard, the audio interface is built-in, making the hook-up at parties and gigs a much simpler — and less computer-bothering — affair. If has ticked your boxes, it’ll be available from October, commanding an estimated £269 / €325 / $ 299 out of your record budget when it does so. In the meantime you can cue-up the promo video after the break.

A utility of subtraction: the ‘Wordless Web’ invites you to a calmer, more visual internet

An internet without context — this is the fundamental idea behind Ji Lee and Cory Forsyth’s experiment, “Wordless Web.” The team has created a bookmarklet that removes text from a website, leaving only images and the page layout behind. On his blog, Lee says that, without text, “[you're] free to enjoy the images in their purest form, without names, labels, definitions, or purpose.”
Both Forsyth and Lee have interesting histories; Forsyth is the creator of outside.in, while Lee was previously a creative director for Google who now works for Facebook. If you’d like join these two on their existential journey to discover the “Wordless Web,” give the bookmarklet after the source a go. Here’s what the front page of The Verge looks like; why…

It’s Official: Apple Sends Out Invites For March 7th iPad 3 Event… In San Francisco
Looks like CNBC was wrong. Apple just sent out invites for a March 7th event where they promise to have something we really want to see and touch. The event will be held next Wednesday at 10AM PST at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco where they will no doubt unveil the next iPad.
This confirms previous reports, besides CNBC’s recent tweet, that Apple was launching the next iPad in the first week of March.
No doubt the next iPad will be powered by a new CPU and rock LTE data connectivity. But will Apple maintain the same price? What will happen to the iPad 2? Will MG faint when it’s announced? These and others are the questions that we cannot wait to find out.
