Instapaper for Android has actually seen a substantial growth since the release of the Nexus 7 tablet, Mobelux co-founder and imaginative director Jeff Rock advised The Next Internet. Starting with the launch of the Nexus 7, Instapaper for Android saw a 600 percent rise in downloads from the Google Play store. The 7-inch Asus-made tablet even holds the greatest share of all Android gadget installs, regardless of the fact that the gadget launched just a couple weeks ago, and customer need has gone beyond Google’s supply.

While a flood of dedicated apps have appeared on mobile devices for reading articles you’ve saved, desktop operating systems have mostly gone without. The newly renamed (and free) Read Later app — formerly ReadNow — from Michael Schneider acts as a desktop client for your Instapaper and Read It Later accounts. It’s a pretty straightforward concept: the fullscreen reading app syncs with your online reading queue services, and supports your list or archives, liked articles, and tags. It’s also got support for saving articles to services like Evernote, bit.ly, Twitter, Pinboard, and Delicious. Note: only Instapaper Pro users can use the app; regular Instapaper users will have to pay $ 1 a month.

Instapaper, the internet equivalent of a bookmark, has been given a top-to-toe makeover for its latest outing on the iPad. Fear not, your reading materials remain easy to read (and ad-free), but version 4 has now been smoothed over with a thick layer of tablet gloss. Navigation is all done through a bar on the left, and remains available for prodding as you read through your article selection. The upgrade also adds a subscription option for searching all your previous reads, as well as better social skills, with the ability to pick up and store articles and posts shared by your Twitter buddies — ensuring that you’ll probably never run out of reading material again.
