ASUS Transformer Book hybrid PC gets May 21st release date

Remember ASUS’ Transformer Books? All is forgiven if you don’t, as we’re already approaching the one-year anniversary of when they were first revealed at Computex in Taipei. With Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processor options as well as the ability to detach and work as a standalone 13.3-inch tablet, the company’s taken to Facebook to announce that you’ll be able to pick one up in the US starting next week. Sure, Japanese buyers might have picked one up first, but interested hybrid PC shoppers should mark May 21st into their diaries. No official word on pricing, but preorder pages from MacMall earlier this year had the Core i7 model pegged at a hefty $ 1,479.99.

Ford hybrid car sales to be higher than ever in US, but Toyota still dominates

Fsn13_pg_005_ext_full_large

Hybrid car sales in the US have been dominated by Toyota’s Prius family — but that could be changing as demand for Ford’s Fusion and C-Max hybrids continues to sharply rise. Bloomberg reports that the automaker’s share of US hybrid vehicle sales rose from three percent in April 2012 to 18 percent last month. Though Toyota still took in over half of April’s sales, it’s the only manufacturer ahead of Ford at this point. Ford is also on track to beat its own record for yearly hybrid sales — 35,496 vehicles — sometime this month.

Even so, it still has a ways to go to catch up with Toyota. Last year, the Japanese automaker sold over 236,000 hybrids in the US, and according to Bloomberg it expects to sell more than that in 2013. Sales…

Ford to break its yearly hybrid sales record in the US, seven months early

Ford Fusion Energi hands-on

When Ford’s hybrid lineup has been rapidly expanding over the past year, it stands to reason that the company’s sales in the category would take off like an eco-friendly rocket. They have, and faster than you’d expect: the automaker now says it should break its yearly record for US hybrid sales sometime in May, with just under 6,000 cars standing between its current 2013 figures and an all-time high of 35,496 hybrids in 2010. The company has also more clearly established itself as number two, climbing from an estimated three percent of the US hybrid market share last April to 18 percent this year. While Toyota is still the clear frontrunner at 58 percent, Ford is ahead of its Detroit-based rivals — and when Prius sales are soft, the Japanese firm just might be nervous.

Lenovo IdeaTab Lynx review: a decent Windows 8 hybrid, but not Lenovo's best

If Windows 8 tablets with Intel’s Clover Trail silicon under the hood were once a curiosity, well, they’re certainly not novelties anymore. We’ve seen lower-powered hybrids from virtually every PC maker, providing a cheaper counterpoint to Core i5 and i7 systems, but still offering useful accessories like keyboard docks. In addition to one of our favorite Atom-powered slates, the ThinkPad Tablet 2, Lenovo is shilling the IdeaTab Lynx (also known as the IdeaTab K3011) for $ 549 and up. So how does this system stack up? Click through to find out.

Ford Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid test drive (video)

Ford Fusion Energi plug in hybrid test drive video

The Ford Fusion Energi signs up with the C-MAX Energi and Focus Electric as the business’s 3rd vehicle with a charging port and access to California’s HOV lanes. While it’s a bigger vehicle than the C-MAX Energi, it weighs about the exact same and attributes virtually the same plug-in hybrid powertrain with 195 net horsepower and 3 EV driving modes. It integrates a 2-liter DOHC 16V Duratec (Atkinson cycle) engine and CVT with an AC simultaneous motor powered by a 7.6 kWh Lithium Ion battery. This pack takes about 2.5 hours to fill out with a 240V charging station and offers an array of 21 miles (100MPGe) at up to 85mph in all-electric mode. Both cars share the exact same unfortunate battery projection in the trunk location, and while it’s less of a concern in the Fusion sedan than the wagon-like C-MAX, it interferes the overall plan. The Combination Energi additionally packs the company’s most current and biggest tech, consisting of MyFord Mobile, SmartGauge with EcoGuide, Eco Cruise and SYNC with MyFord Touch. Sure, that’s quite amazing, but how does it really drive? Discover after the break.

Dell’s hybrid XPS 18 is a $900 all-in-one PC that turns into an 18-inch tablet

DNP

Dell is pulling back the curtain on the XPS 18, its new portable all-in-one. This device is a natural rival to the Sony VAIO Tap 20, with a built-in battery (rated for 5 hours of runtime) and a comparable design that could transition between conventional desktop computer mode and lying flat– in this case, thanks to flip-out feet on the rear side of the device. With an 18.4-inch, 1080p screen, the 4.85-pound XPS 18 produces a very huge tablet, however we’re talking mobile in the sense that it can tag along on company trips and relocate from office to living space every as soon as and a while. The all-in-one will include a Bluetooth key-board and mouse when it debuts in April, and a $ 50 dock will be an optional accessory. Pricing begins at $ 900 for a dual-core Pentium ULV and a 320GB hard disk, and the high-grade configuration will offer a Core i7 CPU, 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. What’s The Point?: Ferrari Is Making A 863HP Hybrid

hybrid-ferrari-1.jpg

Because I don’t know why, Ferrari is going to manufacturer a million-dollar, 863-horsepower gas/electric hybrid supercar called the *drumroll please* LaFerrari. *womp womp* Wow, and I was this close to putting my name on the waiting list.

The LaFerrari has more power than the McLaren P1, it’s also a hybrid made entirely of carbon fibre, it will do 62 mph under 3 seconds, and they will only make 499 while already having about 700 orders.

Who cares about how fast it can do 62MPH, how quickly can I get it to 88MPH? I’m asking for a friend and not me who totally doesn’t have a flux capacitor and no this isn’t a picnic basket full of dinosaur-sized condoms behind my back. They’re, uh, weather balloons.

Hit the jump for more pictures and and a video of the thing zoom around that gave me a boner even though I tried to fight it.

Organic Transit’s Solar-Pedal Hybrid Vehicle Is Ready To Ship In March

Screen Shot 2013-01-20 at 12.15.44 PM

We’ve seen the Organic Transit Elf go from a twinkle in founder Rob Cotter’s eye to the real deal in a matter of a few short months.

The solar-powered pedal hybrid vehicle first showed its face in prototype phase back at our Durham meetup, and shortly thereafter found its way to Kickstarter.

After asking for $ 100,000 in funding, Organic Transit actually received $ 225,000 and about 51 pre-orders for the $ 4,000 hybrid vehicle.

And that doesn’t include the original 400 pre-orders Organic Transit racked up before hitting Kickstarter.

But the revolution has begun, my friends. The Elf has gone from hand-made manufacturing to vacuum forming the body, which produces a new frame every 11 minutes. A few other tweaks have been made like the addition of standard 60 watt panels, a lithium battery, and an app that tells you how much you’re working out your legs or decreasing your carbon footprint. Plus, the app makes sure you don’t get lost on an epic biking adventure.

This only means that shipping is in the works. Kickstarter pledgers should get their Elf starting in March through May, and the original 400 pre-orders plus new ones will fall in line after that.

The company is aiming its vehicle, which retails for about $ 4000, at small businesses who might need something a bit more efficient and protective than a bike to make their deliveries.

It’s only a matter of time for the Elf to garner a following, which is just the right time for Organic Transit to start marketing its TruckIt vehicle, similar to the Elf but with more payload capacity.
