Say Hello To Amazon’s New Kindle Fire Family: $159 Upgraded Original, $199 7-inch and $299 8.9-inch HD

Images claiming to be Nokia ’ s next set of smartphones hit Twitter this morning. Stemming from a random Twitter source (organized business or PR leaker?), these images are apparently of the 4.3-inch Nokia 820 and the 920 PureView, the latter of which evidently packs Nokia ’ s tremendously imaging system. These phones were expected to be disclosed for the very first time at a September 6th event. Whoops.
Nokia understands the best ways to make an attractive phone. Starting with the N8 in 2010, Nokia has actually because outed several ingenious and superb looking smartphones. The newest appear more of the same. That ’ s an advantage. Much like their predecessors, these are great looking phones. Well done, Nokia.
The 820 apparently uses a 4.3-inch display and is likely the mid-range phone for the Lumia line. Nothing else is learnt about the phone although the leaked pictures reveal it sports a Carl Zeiss optics. No word on pricing or availability for either of these styles.

World’s slowest Linux computer, says ‘Hello Wor…’ (video)

Evidently tired of smooth running graphics, lightning fast processing and bags and bags of available memory, programmer Dmitry Grinberg decided to go back to computing basics. And then some. As Linux was developed on a 32-bit machine with 1MB of RAM, this has always been considered the minimum system requirements to run the open source OS. Dmitry, however, put this theory to test, building a barebones set-up with just an 8-bit RISC microcontroller at its heart. Running at a somewhat sedentary 6.5KHz, with only 16KB of SRAM and 128KB of flash storage, these are specs that make most phones look like supercomputers. To get things working, Dmitry had to write an ARM emulator so that the system appeared as having a 32-bit processor with an MMU, and it looks like a 30-pin 16MB SIMM was added, plus as SD card to house the Ubuntu image. Despite all this, he was able to load Ubuntu successfully. Sure, it took four hours, and that’s after two hours waiting for the bash command prompt, but hey. Grinberg claims that the system is still useable, with the command line typically responding “within a minute.” So Dmitri, if you’re reading this on the machine, happy new year! An electronics show wouldn’t be an electronics show without celebrity endorsements. But there was one icon who had more product tie-ins than anyone else. Yep, Kitty-chan was in attendance and she had plenty of pink paraphernalia to hawk to unsuspecting fans of all things kawaii. We’ve collated together all the gear spotted at CES and fortunately, there was more than just a few phone cases and laptop bags. Merchandise spotted includes Kitty-themed karaoke machines, alarm clocks with mounted laser cannons projectors, cordless phones and more.
