Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid plug-in model brings 416 guilt-free horsepower

Porsche updates Panamera line with plugin hybrid

Daily commute got you down? You’ll quickly have the ability to do it in a Porsche by the end of the year without burning a drop of gas, thanks to a new plug-in Panamera S E-Hybrid model. The powertrain, which we saw earlier on a concept automobile, incorporates a V6 bi-turbo gas engine with a 95 horsepower electric model for 416 total system horse power. Like current providings from Ford and others, the 2014 model adds a much larger 9.4 kWh battery to last year’s non-plug-in hybrid, letting you rotate on electrons alone at up until 80MPH for 20 miles approximately with with nary a puff of CARBON DIOXIDE. All that eco-friendly driving will be undone when you decide to open ‘er up in combined gas / electric mode, however, as the zippy four-door will hit 0-60MPH in about 5.5 seconds with a distinctly un-green leading speed of 165 mph. Still, the business states general fuel usage’s been reduced over the last model and you’ll get other niceties like Porsche’s Automobile Connect smartphone app to view and control various car features. While Prius motorists will not have the ability to look down their noses at the model anymore, government rewards will make a much smaller dent in the approximated $ 99,000 price.

If you’ve been staring lustfully at an electric motorcycle but needed that little extra push to make the jump, Zero Motorcycles has a unique incentive in store: it’ll pay for your first 25,000 miles on the road. Should you take the keys to any one of the company’s two-wheelers between now and the end of May, you’ll get a Visa gift card for the amount within a few weeks. Of course, the reason it can make such a seemingly generous offer is through the sheer efficiency of an electric engine: at a typical 10 cents for every kilowatt-hour, you’re looking at just under $ 200 for what’s likely several months or more of driving, even if you’re particularly enthusiastic. Knowing that riding the same amount with a gas-powered bike practically requires taking out a small mortgage in the current economy, though, we’d say that Zero is just reminding us of an an advantage e-motorbikes already have.
