Thorough Google Glass teardown reveals 570mAh battery capacity
Among the handful of Google Glass teardowns (and attempts at doing so) out there, this one by Star Simpson and Scott Torborg is one of the most thorough. The pair deconstructed the eyewear down to components so small they fit on a dime, using considerable force to tear through glue and plastic. Peeling back the cover of the battery enclosure revealed a non-replaceable 2.1 Wh (570mAh) single-cell lithium polymer unit. Simpson and Torborg note that while they do not recommend dismantling Glass (it’s hard enough to get your hands on one), they didn’t encounter major hurdles when they did and even managed to put it back together in working order. Most of you are familiar with what Google Glass looks like by now, but if you want to see all its parts individually, hit the source below.

Multipurpose: Functional Glass Bong Electric Guitar

This is the functional glass bubbler electric guitar constructed by glassblower Nate Dizzle. You smell that? Smells like a JAM SESSION. Plus herb. It smells like herb. You trying to get high? Because I’m trying to get high AND NEVER COME DOWN. You know what I’m saying? I’m saying let’s blast off in a rocketship and leave this shithole behind. “But can we smoke weed?” WHAT — and risk setting off the ship’s emergency smoke alarms?! We’ll have to do it in the bathroom and blow out the vent.

Google Glass monthly update improves photos with HDR, captions
Google has committed to pushing software updates to its Glass headset each month, and a post on Google+ reveals this month’s tweaks are focusing on pictures. If you’re a fan of using the device for POV shots, it should take better pictures by capturing a sequence of images for improved low-light performance and HDR pictures in bright situations — check out a gallery of enhanced images at the source link below. Also new is a prompt to add a caption after you take a picture. Users can tap their headset, speak the caption and it’s automatically inserted. Last month’s XE5 update addressed a wider range of issues, but this one will make sure any impromptu pictures (with your subject’s full awareness and permission for the photo, we’re sure) are high quality.

Man Proposes To Girlfriend, Captures With Google Glass

This is a video of Breon Nagy proposing to his girlfriend atop Leeds Castle while wearing Google Glass. It’s just the right amount of sweet and sappy to make you get a little choked up when she says, “Of course I will!” *clearing throat* I mean, not that I did personally or anything.
I proposed to my girlfriend through Google Glass. I was carrying the ring around with me for 2 days and finally decided that Leeds Castle was a good place to ask her to marry me. Earlier she asked me to buy her a castle, that’s why I said what I did

Wow, there is absolutely no way I could carry a ring around in my pocket for two days without losing it. I can’t even keep my phone on me through a whole night of drinking. “That’s different.” How is that different? “You’re drunk!” Ssssssssshhhh! You think my boss can tell?

Atheer takes on Google Glass, conjures up a virtual tablet you control with 3D gestures

Atheer, a tiny startup in Mountain View, California, is literally surrounded by Google. It’s a block away from Google’s HQ, with Google buildings practically every direction you look when you walk out the front door. And yet, right under Google’s nose, the company’s building a device that’s a lot like Google Glass: an augmented reality headset that actually uses Android to display its applications.

Glass Nest lets users control their homes from their heads
Those who already own Google Glass are more likely than most to embrace new technologies like Nest’s thermostat, so it only makes sense that an especially eager adopter would find a way to combine the two. That would be James Rundquist and his new Glass Nest app: Glass owners now just have to announce that they’re coming home (or heading out) to make their Nest units change the climate. More exacting homeowners can fine-tune the temperature, too. While the utility is both unofficial and quite limited at this stage, Rundquist has posted source code that lets anyone expand on the project. If you’re in the rare position of owning both gadgets, we’d suggest giving Glass Nest and its code at least a cursory look.

Google Glass ‘prescription edition’ makes a cameo at Google I/O

Google I/O is always full of surprises, and we came across yet another elusive bit of hardware on the show floor today: Google Glass “prescription edition”. No, it’s not actually called that (we made up the name), but what you’re looking at is definitely Glass that’s been neatly integrated with a pair of prescription glasses — in fact, it looks a lot like the version of Glass that Google recently mentioned on its blog. We don’t really know anything else about this device, but we’ve reached out to Google for comment. Is this a custom design built by combining Google Glass Explorer Edition with off-the shelf eyewear? Is this a Glass prototype that’s designed specifically for people who wear prescription spectacles? Share your thoughts in the comments and don’t forget to check out the gallery below.
Update: Google’s confirmed it’s a prototype the company’s experimented with that uses the same software as the Explorer Edition but slightly different hardware on the outside.
