Germany and France are working together to keep internet traffic away from the US

The ongoing revelations about the extent of NSA data collection are causing other countries to tighten up their security and keep their citizens’ data private. Germany in particular has been talking about keeping its internet traffic and email messages private within the country for some time, and now the country is planning to work with France to help build a network throughout Europe that keeps data away from the United States. According to Reuters, German Chancellor Angela Merkel (pictured above) is planning to discuss a European communication network that’ll keep internet traffic away from the US with French President Francois Hollande when they meet later this week.

This comes after it was revealed that the NSA had monitored…

Google Play Music All Access gets Handy in Germany

Germany’s something of a latecomer to Google’s Play Music All Access party (that name, we know!). The country that made David Hasselhoff a venerable pop star was conspicuously absent from the Google music service’s many European roll outs. Not now, …

LG’s 55-inch curved OLED TV hits Germany for 8,999 euros this week

Following its availability at several Best Buy locations across the US, LG’s 55-inch curved OLED TV is finally making its way to Europe. The company today announced that it’ll arrive in Germany this week for 8,999 euros (roughly $ 12,000), with wider availability and pricing set to be announced in Q4. LG notes that it stands as the first to offer this type of kit in both the US and the EU, though, we’re sure Samsung won’t lag too far behind as usual. Full press release after the break.

MyTaxi starts one-hour delivery in Germany, may reach US cities next year

DNP Mytaxi makes trials onehour package delivery, battles limited patience abroad

Don’t let the name fool you, Mytaxi wants to drop off more than just people. The app-based service that began as a German take on Uber has now started using its fleet of drivers to offer one-hour courier deliveries in its home country. The Next Web reports that, once this initial trial is over at the end of the year, the 60-minute service could be expanded to cover US cities including Washington, D.C. (where Mytaxi already operates cabs), Denver, Miami and Seattle, at prices similar to existing shipping options. There’s a touch of irony in waiting for the ambiguous domestic start date, but we’ll leave that for Google and eBay to sort out.

UK and Germany join France in demanding Google rewrite its privacy policy

Last month France acted on a year-long investigation into Google’s new privacy policy in the EU, demanding the company change its policy or face stiff fines. Now, the UK and Germany are piling on. The UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office says that Google’s policy, last updated in March 2012, “does not provide sufficient information to enable UK users of Google’s services to understand how their data will be used across all of the company’s products.” The ICO is giving Google until September 20th to update the policy or face “the possibility of formal enforcement action.”

Germany, meanwhile, has already scheduled a hearing for August, where Google will need to defend its privacy policy, reports Computerworld. Google’s privacy…

Sony to offer UltraViolet access to Germany in September, France in the fall

To use UltraViolet these days, you have to live in one of a few English-speaking countries. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will change that soon: the company just teased its plans for the digital locker service in mainland Europe. According to the firm’s David Bishop, Germans will get cloud access to Sony movies in late September — possibly September 30th, as DECE hinted in April — while the French will have their turn sometime in the fall. Neither Sony nor other studios have provided additional launch dates, although we know that neighboring countries like Belgium and the Netherlands should be next on the list.
