Axio returns as Melon, an EEG headband that’ll help you learn to focus

Insert Coin meet Melon, a headband that'll help you learn to focus

Fast payday loans For Every One

The quantified self movement’s gaining steam, with companies creating all sorts of gadgets to track our activity levels, sleeping habits and even what’s going on inside our heads. Melon’s an EEG headband that taps into your brain’s inner workings to show you how well you maintain mental focus. We actually saw Melon’s prototype predecessor last year when it was called Axio, and while this new band packs largely the same components, the design’s been refined to a much thinner profile. As before, its got a trio of electrodes for sensing brainwaves, a NeuroSky chip for filtering out extraneous electrical noise and Bluetooth 4.0 for offloading data wirelessly. It sends data to iPhones (Android’s in development) running the Melon app, which translates that info into a focus graph — generally speaking, the higher the neural activity in your pre-frontal cortex, the higher your level of focus. Users then input contextual data tags like time of day, type of activity and the surrounding environmental conditions to allow them to track variables that may affect their focus.

Adobe announces Creative Suite update and rebranding, focus on cloud services

Cs6_1020_large

Adobe has announced the next major upgrade to its flagship digital editing tools, the Creative Suite, and the entire series is getting a new, but familiar name to emphasize what the company is focused on. Adobe Creative Cloud will be replacing Creative Suite 6, the version released last year. The product series has been on a yearly release cycle since 2011, and this latest upgrade includes new features for nearly every product in the suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro, all of which now have their name appended with CC, instead of CS.

This post is developing. We’ll update as Adobe announces more details during its keynote at MAX 2013.

Samsung kicks off Galaxy S4 ad campaign with new TV spots, focus on features

We may still not have exact launch dates for the Galaxy S4 on all carriers, but the launch is approaching — and with it, Samsung’s latest big ad campaign. From the looks of the first few TV spots, the company is staying away from any shots at its rivals or celebrity appearances (at least for now), focusing instead on some of the new features of the smartphone; Sound Shot, Group Play and S Translator all get their own 30 second ads, while another minute-long commercial (appearing in at least in the UK) offers a more general and suitably dramatic overview of the phone. There’s no word yet on exactly how big a push Samsung will be making with the new ad campaign, but it’s pretty safe to bet you’ll be seeing lots of these in the months ahead.

Posterous closing on April 30th to focus on Twitter

Posterous closing on April 30th to focus on Twitter

It’s practically inevitable as breathing: a tech giant obtains a creative yet small startup entirely for its talent or technology, and lets any surplus services wither away. Posterous’ choice to shut down following its 2012 purchase by Twitter is really almost a textbook instance. The 4-year-old firm will close its Posterous Spaces service on April 30th to move all of its focus on Twitter, offering consumers simply over 2 months to back up their content. There is an uncommon twist to this apparently predictable story, nevertheless. Those still utilizing Spaces will have a location to go– along with Squarespace and WordPress import devices, Posterous founders Brett Gibson and Garry Tan are preparing to introduce Posthaven as a (not entirely intentional) refuge. Diehards will still have reason to mourn the end of an age, however the closure at least won’t be the end to their productions.
