Kindle Fire vs iPad 2 vs Galaxy Tab 7.7 vs HTC Flyer
Of course, this has to include Apple's peerless iPad 2, but instead of plumping for the gorgeous Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, we've chosen to compare it with its new sibling the Galaxy Tab 7.7 because of its size. And to complete our line-up, we've plumped …

Best Buy Slashes The 7-inch HTC Flyer Android Tablet Down To $99 UPDATE
Oh my. Tablet prices are in a free fall. The HTC Flyer is only $ 99 at Best Buy right now. The price seems isolated to Best Buy right now so it’s likely the price drop is not from HTC but rather Best Buy. The website is sold out but your local stores still might have some. You know what to do: drop everything and head down to your Best Buy. This is an awesome deal and hopefully a sign that manufacturers and retailers are finally getting aggressive.
HP started the fire sale trend by dropping the TouchPad down to $ 99. Even with a dead OS, the TouchPad was an amazing deal for $ 99. HP and retailers sold out within hours. The HTC Flyer might be a slightly smaller tab, but it rocks a proven Android release and is built quite nice. It’s a steal at $ 99.
RIM also recently cut the price of its tablet, the PlayBook, to $ 300. But it’s still overpriced. Amazon got it right with the $ 200 Kindle Fire. Consumers need a low enough price that the purchase feels like a deal. Non-iPad tablets are going to be treading water until they’re priced right. It’s unrealistic to expect $ 99 mainstream tablets, but prices still need to drop to a more competitive level.
As liliputing points out, the Best Buy Flyer sale might have been an accident but it’s also a great deal worth pursuing. Drop everything and head down to your local Best Buy emporium and tell the blue-shirted shopkeeps to bring forward your Flyer post-haste.
Update: Best Buy fixed their goof but not before a good deal of people around the internet managed to snag one. Thanks to Stephen for the pic!

Best Buy To Cut The HTC Flyer Tablet To $299 On October 1st
Watch out for falling tablet prices! No, seriously, don’t get burned by price cuts. The HTC Flyer is the latest tablet to see a major price reduction. Starting tomorrow, October 1st, Best Buy will lower the price of the 7-inch Android 2.3 tablet from $ 499 to $ 299. This follows the PlayBook, Xoom, and most notable, the TouchPad.
The Flyer is nearing its 6 month birthday and hasn’t fared very well in the marketplace. This is mainly because it attempted to compete directly with the iPad while offering a smaller screen and dated OS. However, had it launched at $ 299, the Flyer might have own over more fans because it is a capable tablet with several fun tricks including an active digitizer stylus.
Best Buy announced today that the price cut will go into effect on October 1st and apply to purchases made from Best Buy stores and the website.
Hopefully these price cuts show that manufacturers are finally waking up. Consumers are seemingly only interested in the iPad at the $ 500 price point. If other tabs are to be sold, they have to be priced low enough to compensate for their shortcomings and smaller feature set. The TouchPad was a massive hit at $ 99, but that price is not sustainable. Amazon got the Fire’s price right and the HTC Flyer might even make more friends at $ 299.

HTC Hero S coming to US Cellular next month alongside Wildfire S and Flyer
Guess what’s officially on its way to US Cellular in October? The headline probably gave you a pretty good clue — it’s the HTC Hero S. And it’s not coming alone: apparently the new device is big enough to warrant its very own entourage. Its brethren, the Wildfire S and Flyer, will both waltz into stores at roughly the same time. The Gingerbread-running Hero S will offer a 1.2GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 CPU, 4-inch qHD (960 x 540) display, a 1,520mAh battery and a 5MP CMOS rear camera accompanied by a 1.3MP front-facing cam. Add it to the lineup next to the Motorola Electrify, and we’d say the carrier’s got some good options for the getting. The Hero S will be available sometime next month for $ 200 after $ 100 mail-in rebate, while the Wildfire S (which will come in grey and purple) will go for $ 80 after rebate and the Flyer can be yours for $ 200. Head below to find the full press release.

PlayStation Vita out in October, says Blockbuster UK flyer
Blockbuster may have had its share of trouble here in the States, but that doesn’t mean its British brother isn’t doing well enough to have (and leak) a big-shot release date or two. According to a flyer brandishing the Blockbuster logo and that good ‘ol co.uk extension, the PlayStation Vita will land in the United Kingdom on October 28th. That’s ominously close to Halloween — not that we’re suggesting anybody is having pre-holiday PSV boot-shakes, or anything — and the flyer’s fall release prediction squares up nicely with Sony’s “end of 2011″ launch window. As always, we suggest taking rumors and leaks such as this with a grain of salt — but considering Sony’s sinkable record regarding loose lips, we’d understand a low sodium approach. Hit the break to get a peek at the Blockbuster UK flyer — ready and waiting for your judgement.
