What does wipe data do in android flashing?
Question by : What does wipe data do in android flashing?
OK so my brother said that he recently flashed a new ROM. He said he wiped everything (data, cache, dalvik) and then he installed the ROM via clockworkmod recovery. What i don’t understand is, that all his contacts and apps are saved, even though he did a full wipe/factory reset. Did he use titanium backup? If he did, can you give me a link/tutorial for doing this? Thank you for your time, as I am very new to the android system.

Almost yes, but you should purchase it. About the contact, Google can sync it.

Screen Grabs: Are agents on Fringe flashing their Google Wallet?
Screen Grabs chronicles the uses (and misuses) of real-world gadgets in today’s movies and TV. Send in your sightings (with screen grab!) to screengrabs at engadget dot com.
We’re not sure exactly what the FBI’s standard issue kit consists of, but we imagine it has more than a few bits of secret tech. These screen grabs from this week’s Fringe, however, would have us believe that the rogue agents like to pick up their tabs with what looks like Google Wallet. We can clearly see a Sprint-branded Galaxy Nexus being used to for a not-so-undercover financial transaction. At least it looks like the agents might have had an upgrade since we last saw them around these parts.
[Thanks, Te-je]

HowTo Unlock iOS 4.2.1/ 4.1 for iPhone 3G/3GS by Flashing your Baseband [ 05.14, 05.15 to 06.15]
UPDATE FEB 2011- after this video you will get 06.15, you can then use this here to update and maintain your custom baseband www.youtube.com Written Guide : tinyurl.com 3GS users, your iPhone might be tethered, see 4.2.1 jailbreak info/guide for reference : www.youtube.com Download : iPhone 3G/3GS 4.2.1 – tinyurl.com iPhone 3G/3GS 4.1 – tinyurl.com Mac RedSn0w 0.9.6b5 – tinyurl.com Windows RedSn0w 0.9.6b5 – tinyurl.com twitter.com facebook.com (windows vista/7 users, right click on .exe, properties, set compatibility mode to XP) ——————————— EXTRA INFO : PLEASE UNDERSTAND THE CONSEQUENCES OF FLASHING TO 06.15. 1. There is no way to come back down from 06.15, and there’s no hiding the baseband version from Apple. You’ll be voiding your warranty in a very obvious way. 2. If some future baseband comes out with a critical fix, you won’t be able to update to it if it remains down in the 05.xx sequence (then again, you wouldn’t update to it if you wanted to keep your unlock anyway). 3. Starting with FW 4.2.1 if you have 06.15 on your iPhone you won’t ever be able to restore to stock firmware (it will fail). You’ll need to only restore to custom IPSWs (then again, if you’re unlocker you should already be doing that). You can make a custom firmware by using PwnageTool for Mac or Sn0wBreeze for Windows.

Gallery of GIFs Explains the Inner Workings of Machines
You gotta love the animated GIF. Sure it was responsible for the flashing and blinking of some the 1990s’ worst web home-pages, but how else would you explain the inner workings of an aircraft engine or a sewing machine, all in less than 100-kilobytes?
That’s exactly what this wonderful collection of moving diagrams does. The World of Technology blog has rounded up a selection including the radial engine above, which powers airplane propellors (and moves like a hula-hooping robot), to the ingenious mechanism inside a sewing machine, which you still won’t work out even after staring at it for many minutes.

My favorite, though, must be the Wankel rotary engine, and not just for my school-boyish love of its name. The Wankel is pretty much a single eccentric cam spinning inside a chamber, doing everything a normal piston-pumping engine can do, but with a simplicity and elegance that is truly astonishing. Go take a look.
