Yes: Arcade Fighting Game Rewards Winner With A Beer

The Last Barfighter is an arcade game designed for Huge Employer Brewing Company by the McKinney Ten Percent ad agency. It’s a two-player dealing with game that takes place in a biker bar (fantastic place for fights btw) and rewards the winner with a cup loaded with beer. God I enjoy playing games for beer. Rock-paper-scissors for a forty?
Beer-thirsty combatants can do battle with an option of 5 characters, all called after Huge Supervisor brews. After three rounds of extreme fisticuffs, fire throwing and unicorn horn impaling, the winner’s cup is fulled of a sample of beer from a keg placed within the equipment.
Are you thinking exactly what I’m thinking? “Play two players on your own and then just let one stand there while you pummel them for a free beer?” Damn yeah! However seriously, do not touch the controls or I’ll eliminate you.

Fighting Frog Has A Hidden Bone Knife In Its Thumb

Seen here looking suspiciously like the girl I had a crush on in high school does now (burn Allison — I’m glad you turned me down for Homecoming!), the Japanese Otton frog has a fifth “false” finger with a hidden bone blade inside for slashing male opponents and positioning females during mating. Call me crazy, but I have a strict ‘NO KNIVES’ policy in the bedroom. Aromatherapy candles are still a go.
“While the pseudo-thumb may have evolved for mating, it is clear that they’re now used for combat,” Iwai explained in a statement. “The males demonstrated a jabbing response with the thumb when they were picked up, and the many scars on the male spines provided evidence of fighting.”
Hell yeah, fighting frogs! “Battletoads.” YES — I knew there was a reason I kept you around. “Because I’m so smart and clever?” No, because you’re so humble. GET OUT OF MY SIGHT, YOU DISGUST ME.

Neal Stephenson, the celebrated sci-fi and speculative fiction writer, is sick of the superficial way that sword fighting is treated in video games, and the self-described “swordsmanship geek” wants to fix the injustice. He’s heading up the development of an arena combat game called Clang (video below) that aims to bring the “obsessive attention to real-world detail” found in today’s immensely-customizable shooters to the more nuanced world of sword-to-sword warfare. In order to make Clang a reality, he’s turning to Kickstarter to raise the $ 500,000 his team needs.
Clang will use a “low-latency, high-precision motion controller” to give people the kind of deep, physical gameplay that isn’t possible with a stick-and-button game pad….

Perhaps to SIM card inventor Giesecke & Devrient’s surprise, its nano-SIM proposal introduced late last year didn’t fly through the standardization process unopposed: instead, the process for crafting a next-gen SIM standard has devolved into an all-out war pitting Apple against many of the other major players in the phone industry, FT reports. The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) is on track to vote on the nano-SIM next week, but there are concerns that Apple’s version will require a drawer for the card — a design element it already employs on both the iPhone and iPad — whereas the competing design led by Nokia (and seemingly backed by Motorola and RIM) is said to have “significant technical advantages.” Though…

Awesome Video of Fighting Ninjas; No More, No Less

To show off the capabilities of their OMCOPTER–a small helicopter drone designed to carry the RED Epic HD camera (it is a very good camera!)–omstudios put together this five-minute video of some ninjas fighting each other. It’s hard to deny how impressive the camera smoothly flows in and out of the action, even up the side of a building, but I have to say, I’m a little disappointed these guys seem to have stolen what I thought to be an original idea. Everyone knows that in 1989, I clearly said, “I’m gonna make like this awesome movie where it’s all these really cool shots up buildings and stuff and it’s just these sweet ninjas fighting each other,” and then I acted it out until the end of recess.
