KDDI's HTC J One variant packs a microSD slot, additional camera features

Fast payday loans For Every One

These days, the presence of a microSD slot on new handsets is arguably more important than the amount of storage on the inside. One such slot found its way onto the Chinese variants of HTC’s One, and now Japanese network KDDI has unveiled its model — the HTC J One (aka HTL22) — also with expandable memory on the spec sheet (up to 64GB cards supported). An accompanying promo video has informed us of some new camera modes as well, including a best shot feature like Nokia’s Smart Group Shot or BlackBerry’s Time Shift, the ability to edit out background photobombers, and creating slow-mo highlights within video clips. We’d hope to see a camera software update bringing these features to US Ones in the future, but for now, check out what you’re missing in the video below.

Pinterest revives classic features, revamps notifications and search

Pinterest overauls notifications and search, revives a load of classic features

When Pinterest unveiled its big redesign last month, it took the sort of gamble on feature trade-offs that we’ve seen before: some big leaps forward at the expense of a few leaps back. Much to the relief of many, the company is already doing what it can to restore what was lost while still forging ahead. Veteran users can once again see pins they’ve just posted, mention friends and find would-be contacts on Facebook on Twitter. As for the less nostalgic among us? The progress isn’t as dramatic, but it’s there: Pinterest has reworked notifications to show their history, and searches now include as-you-type keyword suggestions. More updates are on the way, including notifications for new pins, so we wouldn’t worry that Pinterest is spending most of its time mending broken fences.

YouTube’s first Comedy Week kicks off May 19th, features big-name lineup

YouTube's first Comedy Week kicks off May 19th, features bigname lineup

Whether it’s politics or flamboyant music videos, YouTube certainly has a little something for (mostly) everyone on the interwebs. But, if you’re a fan of comedy, things are about to get a tad bit better: on May 19th, YouTube’s set to launch its own Comedy Week, a first for the Google-owned video giant. As part of the various live streams, online viewers will be able to enjoy “a mix” of stand-up sets, sketches and music shows — which includes performances by a slew of well-known productions and comedians, such as Funny or Die, CollegeHumor, Improv Everywhere, Ed Helms, Seth Rogen, George-Michael Michael Cera and many, many more.

According to YouTube, the goal for Comedy Week is to “create a one of a kind experience” for those who love the genre, with VP of Marketing Danielle Tiedt adding that the site is indeed “the home of comedy for the next generation.” Chances are it’ll be a week filled with plenty of LOLs, so perhaps you should take this time to bookmark the corresponding channel — link for that can be found in the PR after the break.

LG Optimus G Pro update features detailed: Smart Video, Dual Camera, recording (video)

LG Optimus G Pro Value Pack update gets a video preview that details all the new features

While the biggest question concerning LG’s 5.5-inch Optimus G Pro — when will it ship in the US — remains officially TBA, the company has posted a video preview (embedded after the break) of the software update it’s sending Korean early adopters this month. There’s also no launch date for the “Value Pack” upgrade listed, but the video does give a clear demonstration of things like Smart Video that recognizes when the viewer looks away using eye tracking technology, Dual Camera using the front and back cameras at the same time, and Pause & Resume recording that brings Vine-style seamless video cuts. Check out the video to experience it for yourself, we’ll see if LG’s phablet can beat the Galaxy S4 — and, presumably, the next Galaxy Note — to market in the US with these features.

Samsung kicks off Galaxy S4 ad campaign with new TV spots, focus on features

Samsung kicks off Galaxy S4 ad campaign with new TV spots, focus on features

We may still not have exact launch dates for the Galaxy S4 on all carriers, but the launch is approaching — and with it, Samsung’s latest big ad campaign. From the looks of the first few TV spots, the company is staying away from any shots at its rivals or celebrity appearances (at least for now), focusing instead on some of the new features of the smartphone; Sound Shot, Group Play and S Translator all get their own 30 second ads, while another minute-long commercial (appearing in at least in the UK) offers a more general and suitably dramatic overview of the phone. There’s no word yet on exactly how big a push Samsung will be making with the new ad campaign, but it’s pretty safe to bet you’ll be seeing lots of these in the months ahead.

Sony outs Lightningfriendly speaker dock in Japan, alarm clock and radio features in tow

Sony may have unveiled a slew of new audio products back at CES 2013, but the company has been relatively quiet when it comes to launching ones that are compatible with Apple’s novel Lightning connector. That being said, it looks as if folks in the Land of the Rising Sun will soon be able to pair their current-gen iOS device with a dock from the PlayStation maker, thanks to the recently announced SRS-GC11IP. Pictured above, this little 0.8W speaker isn’t loaded with fancy features like Bluetooth 4.0 or WiFi, but it does offer convenient functions such as an alarm clock and AM / FM radio — these, of course, go along with the ability to also play tunes straight from a Lighting-ready iDevice or, with the proper RDP-NWC11 model, a new-era Walkman and many different smartphones. Whether we’ll ever see the as-yet-unpriced tubular peripheral hit other markets, well, that still remains to be seen, with Sony only going so far as to listing it as “coming soon” on its Japanese website.
