The EXOdesk Is A Poor Man’s Microsoft Surface, But It’s Still Dripping With Multitouch Awesomeness (Video)

exodesk

Raise your hand if you want a Microsoft Surface for a desk? Everyone, right? Of course. It’s the hottest thing out of Redmond since this picture set. But they’re damn expensive. There’s no way I’d use one for my desk. I spilled coffee on my desk just 10 minutes ago. Instead, if I was a member of the 1%, I’d buy a Surface and hang it on the wall. So you know, it was safe from me and my offspring.

Fast payday loans For Every One

EXOpc has an alternative: the EXOdesk. It seems to have most of the Surface’s magic and it only costs $ 1,299. That’s within the price justification range of some of the 99 percenters!

The EXOdesk is set for a CES 2012 debut but the company just released this teaser video. Stick with it. The video gets exponentially more interesting. EXOpc says it will only cost $ 1,299 when it’s released next year. Of course they’re not stating the hardware chops of the screen or computer just yet. But it at least looks awesome. With the current Surface incarnation, the Sasmung SUR40, costing $ 8,400, the lower-priced EXOdesk seems like a fun device even if it’s not as capable. We’ll no doubt seek out the EXOdesk at CES but in the mean time check out the teaser below.

Volvo unveils Concept You luxury sedan, dripping with touchscreens (video)

The Frankfurt Motor Show is underway in Germany, where Volvo has just taken the wraps off the Concept You — a new luxury sedan that features some pretty nifty, touch-based controls. Directly behind the car’s steering wheel lies a monitor that digitally displays your basic driving information, including speed and a map of your trajectory. The wheel also features some sensor enhanced panels, which you can use to adjust your radio or cruise control settings. A touch interface on the center console, meanwhile, uses an infrared sensor to pick up on any hand or eye movements before activating to bring up the system’s infotainment control mode, which boasts an unreleased FreshAir subwoofer from Alpine. From here, you can surf the web, swipe through radio stations, check for safety alerts or control your air conditioning, using only your fingers or customized gestures. Plus, there’s an extra touchscreen placed between the two rear seats, meaning your kids won’t be left out of the action, either. Cruise past the break for an exclusive video of the Concept You’s so-called smart pad technology, along with the full PR.

Samsung announces three Wave handsets, dripping in Bada 2.0 and ChatON

It’s shaping up to a be a busy IFA for Samsung. Barely 24 hours after announcing its new ChatON messaging client, the manufacturer is now gearing up to release a troika of new Bada 2.0-powered Wave handsets — the Wave 3, Wave M and Wave Y — set to make their debut this week in Berlin. Leading the pack is the Wave 3, which leaked earlier this week. Powered by a 1.4GHz processor, this little guy boasts a 4-inch VGA Super AMOLED display, 3GB of memory (along with a 32GB microSD slot) and a five megapixel, auto-focus-enabled shooter. The Wave M, meanwhile, packs slightly less juice, with a 832MHz processor, a 3.65-inch WVGA screen and 150MB of onboard storage (with a 2GB inbox and 32GB microSD slot). Rounding out the collection is the Wave Y, with its 3.2-inch HVGA display, 832MHz engine and two megapixel camera. All three feature your usual smattering of WiFi / Bluetooth 3.0 capabilities and will ship with ChatON and Samsung’s Social Hub baked into their DNA. No word yet on pricing or availability, but you can find out more in the full press release, after the break.
