Disney puts your face on a 3D-printed Stormtrooper for $99.95

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is giving you the opportunity to put your face on a 3D-printed Stormtrooper figurine as part of its Star Wars Weekends annual event. For $ 99.95 and 10 minutes of your time, Disney uses its high quality single-shot technology to capture a three-dimensional representation of your face — creating a 7.5-inch model that will be delivered 7-8 weeks later. The park’s Stormtrooper exhibit will be available on weekends between May 17th and June 9th, alongside its Carbon-Freeze Me experience — which launched last year to freeze park goers in carbonite like Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to eat this one.

Disney Is Shutting Down LucasArts, Making Enemies (Me)

In heartbreaking news, Disney is shutting down video game developer/publisher LucasArts after its acquisition of it and LucasFilm last year. The company was known for some of the best graphic adventure games the world has even seen, including: Maniac Mansion, Loom, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max Hit the Road, Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, the entire series of Indiana Jones point-and-click adventures, and every Monkey Island, to name a few of my favorites. The company has also made virtually every Star Wars game to date, but has decided to cancel development of both Star Wars: First Assault and Star Wars 1313 to focus on a business model that revolves primarily around licensing the rights for other companies to make Star Wars games instead of creating them in-house. Oh, I’ve got one — it’s called, ‘Fly This X-Wing Straight Up Mickey’s Ass’. It’s rated T for Teen because it’s really just a mix tape of me cussing. I may even release some DLC.
Thanks to Pyrblaze, Lisa, Skamodongo, Doombah and Mr. Q., two of which sound like rejected Super Mario enemies. Hopefully this thing turns out for the best.

Disney halts game development at LucasArts, moves to licensed Star Wars titles
If you’re old enough to have played PC games for more than a decade, LucasArts (originally LucasFilm Games) likely has a permanent place in your heart after a string of legendary adventure and flight combat releases. You’ll unfortunately have to put the company as you knew it squarely in the past — Lucasfilm’s new owner, Disney, is ending internal development at LucasArts. The software house is shifting to a licensing model for Star Wars games, reportedly “minimizing the company’s risk” while expanding the range of games on offer. There’s a chance that in-progress titles like Star Wars 1313 will survive with outside help, according to a spokesperson in touch with GameInformer, but talk of layoffs from Kotaku dampens any chances for direct follow-ups to favorites like Grim Fandango. We won’t mourn too much when personas like Ron Gilbert, Lawrence Holland and Tim Schafer have long since moved on to other companies — still, it’s unquestionably the end of an era for game and movie fans alike.

Hulu part-owners Disney, News Corp. reportedly discuss buying each other out
The new owner of Hulu could possibly end up … one of the existing owners. After an aborted sale effort in 2011, brand-new reports suggest current part owners Disney and Information Corp are speaking over the possibility of one buying the various other’s stake out. The Exchange Journal and Bloomberg both tag people with knowledge of the situation as their sources, indicating a difference over the video streaming site’s business model– it announced $ 695 million in income last year– as a reason for the talks.
Supposedly Information Corp. likes a subscription based design, while Disney sees an advertising-focused method as best. Both of them possess about a 3rd of the site, while Comcast / NBC Universal has many of the remaining 3rd but cannot vote, and according to the rumors would remain as a minority investor if a buyout took location. Additionally playing into this is CEO Jason Kilar’s statement he will leave the company by the end of Q1, so hopefully any choice on its future are made by the time a brand-new leader is in place.

Similar to A Fairytale: Disney Princess Themed Wedding

These are a lot of shots taken by St. Louis, Missouri based Shari Photography of a couple’s Disney themed wedding. The couple were Ariel and Prince Eric, and all the bridesmaids were Disney princesses and the groomsman princes/random characters. There were a lot of Disney touches at the reception too. That’s cool. My fairytale wedding? Means simpler. All I desire is an event that’s as brief as feasible, an open bar, and meals that doesn’t draw (I’m thinking careless joes). Oh, and I desire a raised dancing floor made out of diamonds and I want all my favored bands to be there to play whatever song I desire (we may require to reanimate some corpses for this). And if the head of state and all the various other world leaders could possibly come get sloshed and work out their distinctions between arm-wrestling matches, that would be cool too. Finally, I desire to honeymoon the method whoever invented the word meant– ON THE ACTUAL MOON. So we’re going to need to leave the reception in a spaceship. Preferably one with a jazz and wine bar. “And a gambling establishment.” Great call! (My future wife is a gaming abuser).
Hit the jump for a bunch more shots, but for the whole set (consisting of all the Disney place-settings and table decorations and all that check out Shari Photography’s blog).![]()

Disney CEO confirms spinoff ‘Star Wars’ films are in the works

It’s well known at this point that Disney and Lucasfilm are actively working on a new entrant in the Star Wars film franchise, known as Episode VII, as well as planning to continue the series beyond that. But in addition to keeping the linear Star Wars movies going, Disney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed that the much-rumored standalone movies is also in development. Speaking to CNBC, Iger said “I can confirm to you today that in fact we are working on a few standalone films, Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on films derived from great Star Wars characters that are not part of the overall saga.” Additionally, Iger reiterated the plans to release Episodes VII, VIII, and IX over the course of six years starting in 2015….

Disney and AT&T’s U-Verse renew vows, expand the relationship
Disney and AT&T today revealed a multi-year extension to their currently existing relationship, which brings around 70 networks to AT&T’s U-Verse cable television network. The new “long-term circulation arrangement” also adds a handful of brand-new material, consisting of ESPN 3D and a brand-new ABC/Univision collaborative channel aimed at English-dominant and multilingual Hispanics. That contributes to the already durable schedule, which includes biggies like ESPN and ABC. It’s confusing exactly what cash exchanged hands in the bargain or exactly how long it’ll last– no specifics are offered for either– but it’s safe to state your Disney-owned stations are safe and secure for now, U-Verse users.

Disney Infinity challenges Skylanders for toy-based game crown, launches in June
Disney’s got a substantial stable of renowned characters currently immortalized in plastic, but the business’s wanting to virtualize its schedule with today’s announcement of crossplatform game / toy experience Disney Infinity. Like Activision megalith Skylanders, Disney Infinity pairs actual plastic figurines (allowed with NFC or something similar) with game consoles connected to a pad. The pad transmits those characters directly into the game, around any system the game is being used. Unlike Skylanders, Disney Infinity‘s pad can apparently include up to 3 hookups instantly, permitting character powerup additions and all other in-game incentives. The first characters readily available originated from Pirates of the Caribbean, The Incredibles, and Monsters University (we detected Jack Skellington and all other biggies in the expose trailer as well); Disney promises that individuals will likewise be able to develop their own worlds (virtually) inside the game, beyond simply playing in themed environments. 20 characters are stated to launch with the game when it arrives this June for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, Wii U, 3DS, PC, and mobile. Take a look at the announcement trailer just below.
