HTC Desire X review: one last hurrah for a former flagship?

HTC Desire X review One last hurrah for HTC's former flagship

Before we enter more information on HTC’s Need X, cast your memory back to a time prior to the clothing announced the “One” line of Android phones. You may keep in mind names such as Wildfire, Feeling, Rhyme and, of course, Need. Additionally, you could also keep in mind a specific quantity of company talk about its schemes to streamline its Android providings, and end up phones at a slower, much more considered rate. So, it was a little confusing when we initially heard about the Need X. HTC already had an inexpensive phone, the One V, but apparently considered it not cost effective enough– and the Need C already fills the most entry-level position. With a 1GHz dual-core processor, a WVGA (800 x 480) show and a 5-megapixel camera, the specifications are from the same age as the OG Desire, but with a slightly much more current rate: & euro; 299 in Europe. So, removed of any “One” branding, but bearing a name that numerous will remember fondly, is the Desire X a good phone that’s been transformed, or just a throwback from HTC of old? We invested time in its business to locate out for ourselves.

HTC Proto goes under spycam, reveals secret identity: the Desire X

DNP HTC Desire X

It seems the most recent member of HTC’s mid-range smartphone line-up– formerly recognized as the Proto– is in fact the Need X, according to several Scandinavian merchants (see coverage). Additionally, Hong Kong blog ePrice, who gave the new design the blurrycam treatment, claims that the specs line up with all the rumors: a 4-inch, 800 x 480 display, Android 4.0 with Sense 4.0, Beats Sound, dual-core 1Ghz processor and 5-megapixel camera. HTC ought to formally out the phone this week at IFA, however its European presence and similarity to the China-only New Want V implies it’s most likely an intercontinental model– without the continental sticker label shock.

HTC explains decision to skip Android 4.0 for Desire HD: we’d rather not wipe your data

HTC Thunderbotl review

HTC dampened a few spirits when it dropped the Desire HD from its Android 4.0 upgrade listing. The company may feel your pain, but it claims to have a great reason for denying the update that it’s been doling out anywhere else. There’s no method to shoehorn a new version into the gadget like there was for the Desire’s leap to Android 2.3, the company states. Fitting all that Ice Cream Sandwich into the Desire HD might require repartitioning the internal area, and repartitioning dangers overwriting personal material; needless to say, the company isn’t really keen on describing why it might nuke our family members images just so we can run Chrome. Even if that just weren’t a problem, a nebulous set of “additional technical limitations” may not rub upgraders the right way. All of the explanations bring up, although it’s nonetheless simple to sympathize with Desire HD managers now stuck in Gingerbread land– particularly as managers of the carefully related Thunderbolt aren’t being held back.

HTC Desire C hands-on (video)

HTC Desire C hands-on

HTC gave us a quick session to play around with its latest handset, the Desire C. No, it’s not part of the consolidated One series, nor is the company revealing precisely what that “C” stands for — heaven forfend it’s “cheap”. While a humble 320 x 480 touchscreen and 600MHz processor might not set many smartphone obsessives’ hearts a’ racing, it still manages to eke out a HTC Sense-skinned Android 4.0 UI — no mere feat, in our opinion. A 5-megapixel camera and expandable microSD slot are some other welcome specifications and it’s all wrapped up in an attractive matte finish — you can take your pick form black and white in the UK. Catch our quick video run-through of the sub-$ 300 handset right after the break.
