Foxconn’s Taiyuan plant on riot, facilities damaged
News just was available in that employees at Foxconn’s Taiyuan plant have actually started a riot in the wee hours in China, and that police forces are on website to control the group. While the aim isn’t clear, Sina Weibo individual Li Tian reports that the riot isn’t really associated with the current anti-Japan protests, though evaluating by his images, much destroy has been done in the procedure. The very same website suffered from a strike back in March over salary conflict– the front-line laborers failed to receive the promised pay surge. On a comparable note, Foxconn’s Chengdu plant also had a riot in June, but that was obviously due to an argument between some laborers and a neighborhood restaurant owner.
This event is still ongoing. We will certainly update with even more details when offered.

Scientists scan damaged audio discs, resurrect fresh beats
Digitizing your analog archives? Vinyl to CD / MP3 / iPod turntables might do well enough for your old 45s, but the folks at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory prefer to listen to their old beats by taking pictures of them. More specifically, restoration specialists are using a system called IRENE/3D to snap high resolution images of damaged media. The cracked discs — often made of wax on brass or composition board — are then repaired digitally, letting researchers play the digitized discs with an emulated stylus. So far, the team has recovered a handful of 125 year old recordings from a team in Alexander Graham Bell’s Volta laboratory. The all digital system gives researchers a hands-off way to recover audio from relic recordings without running the risk of damaging them in the process — and no, they probably won’t let you use it to listen to that beat up copy of the White Album you’ve had in your closet since eighth grade. Hit the source link to hear what they’ve recovered.

Notion Ink delays some Adam shipments to February 14th due to touchscreens damaged in transit

The growing pains of being a small company dealing with big demand have bitten Notion Ink again, as the company has had to dish out a disappointing email to some Adam buyers informing them their delivery has been delayed to February 14th. The culprit in this sad case is a shipment of damaged touchscreens, which company chief Rohan Shravan estimates will affect just over five percent of all orders. Touchscreen supplier Sintek has promised to work through the Chinese New Year to refill that stock, so hopefully the bump back to Valentine’s Day will be the last, seemingly fitting, one for the Adam.
