Adobe announces Creative Suite update and rebranding, focus on cloud services

Adobe has announced the next major upgrade to its flagship digital editing tools, the Creative Suite, and the entire series is getting a new, but familiar name to emphasize what the company is focused on. Adobe Creative Cloud will be replacing Creative Suite 6, the version released last year. The product series has been on a yearly release cycle since 2011, and this latest upgrade includes new features for nearly every product in the suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro, all of which now have their name appended with CC, instead of CS.

Creative T3150 delivers stealthy, 2.1-channel Bluetooth audio on the cheap

Bluetooth speakers still tend to revolve around portable designs, but there’s been a gradual shift toward traditional-looking speakers that just happen to have short-range wireless as an option. Creative’s T3150 is proof positive: while it’s an entry-level, 2.1-channel PC speaker on the outside, it stuffs in stereo Bluetooth audio to handle mobile devices in a pinch. Mind you, that’s not the only thing Creative is stealthy about. Although the company is willing to say that the T3150 has an Image Focusing Plate to widen the listening sweet spot, there’s no mention of the power output; we’ve reached out for more detail. At prices of £60 and €70 (around $ 100) for the planned May launch, though, we’d expect a modest amount of wireless audio power.

Wacom teases upcoming HD mobile tablet for ‘creative uses’

Wacom’s dipped its electronic quill in a lot of stylus-enabled tablets, but hasn’t yet done what many of its creative pro users would like: build one of its own. It looks like that’s about to change as the Bamboo maker has posted a teaser on Facebook saying it’ll bring a mobile tablet “this summer” with a pressure-sensitive professional pen, multi-touch capability and an HD display. There are no other details like what OS such a device may boast, but if it offers its own functionality as well — say, Cintiq-style input on a desktop machine — then Wacom could be onto a winner.

BlackBerry Creative Director Alicia Keys tweets from iPhone, pins blame on hackers

BlackBerry announced pop music star Alicia Keys as its new Global Creative Director to great fanfare during its launch of BlackBerry 10 late last month, but if a tweet posted by Keys today is any indication, she may not be being that faithful to the new platform. Adobe’s primary tool for tweaking and organizing photos was always destined to be part of the Creative Cloud offering, but for whatever reason it didn’t make it in time for launch. As of today though, Lightroom 4 is available to download on PC or 64-bit Mac (or both, since you’re allowed multiple installations) as part of a CS6 monthly license. The additional title may not be enough to sway cloudy doubters, but even they can’t dispute that the subscription approach now delivers more software than the full-on $ 2599 shrink-wrapped Master Collection.
