North Korea to grant mobile internet access to visitors, but not citizens

According to the Associated Press, consumers of telecom business Koryolink living in Pyongyang received word that the company will launch a 3G web service specifically for foreigners no behind March 1st. While residents of North Korea have access to things including MMS, video calls, and a subscription to the state-run paper over 3G, a hookup to the global web will continue to be unique to a little, approved piece of the population using broadband. Immigrants will have the ability to buy a regular monthly service strategy for use with a USB modem or their really own SIM card. It’s hard to say if Eric Schmidt’s trip nudged the country and the provider to change their tune, however in any case we’re hoping Se & ntilde; or Schmidt will consider going to Cuba also.

European Union proposal would significantly reduce mobile roaming costs for EU citizens

For several years now, the European Union has been striving to lower the cost of roaming for citizens traveling throughout different countries in the EU, and now its looking to pass a proposal that will continue reducing the prices for roaming voice minutes, SMS messages, and data. By 2014, rates would stand at €0.20 per megabyte of data; placing a voice call would cost €0.25 per minute as of July 1st of this year and €0.15 in 2014, while sending an SMS would cost €0.08 in July this year and €0.05 in 2014. This would represent significant reductions over the what consumers are charged now: €0.50 per megabyte of data, €0.35 cents per minute for placing a voice call, and €0.11 for sending an SMS.
