Ask Engadget: best barebones workstation chassis?

Ask Engadget best barebones workstation chassis

We know you’ve got questions, and if you’re endure enough to ask the globe for responses, then right here’s the outlet to do so. This week’s Ask Engadget query is from Charles, who’s capping off the year with a great question about DIY COMPUTER framework. If you’re looking to ask among your own, drop us a line at ask [ at ] engadget [ dawt ] com.

“I operating in motion graphics and it’s upgrade time. I’m a Do It Yourself and Windows nut, so I’m wanting to construct my very own tower, however the cases are all so horrible! I do not need a plastic window, or something that looks like it was created by aliens– just something that’s sharp, strong, great looking and has a reputable air flow. Is that too much to ask?”

Well, we trawled our brains (along with a fair chunk of the internet) trying to find some stylish framework, and this is what we located:

  • Corsair’s Obsidian 550D could have a plastic window, but otherwise it’s a monolithic piece of imposing black metal that won’t awful up your office.
  • Coolermaster’s Silencio 650 is hewn from diamond-cut aluminum and drops the plastic window, and given the company’s heritage, must have excellent airflow.
  • Lastly, there’s the Lian-Li PC-A71F, which can only be called terrifyingly smooth.

However what about you all? Let’s cap the year off with some sophisticated PC cases, peace and goodwill to everyone and a really happy New Year to you, the Engadgeteers.

Roskva electric motorcycle revealed in Norway with carbon fiber chassis and clothes

Roskva electric motorcycle revealed in Norway carbon fiber chassis 94hp motor 112MPH top speed

The choices in the electric motorbike market simply keep getting juicier, and while you’ll still need to stick with the more established brands like Brammo, Zero or BRD if you’re wanting to make an acquisition, a hot new prototype has just been revealed that threatens to make them all look a bit … pedestrian. It’s called the Roskva from a group of 5 pupils at the University of Life Sciences (UMB) in Oslo, Norway. Like a MotoGP bike it has an all carbon fiber unified frame and bodywork that weighs less than 25kg and even rolls on carbon tires. A 94HP motor provides the oomph and delivers a top speed of about 112MPH, with a the greatest selection of 62 miles. No word on when or if the thing could make it into real production, however we can say for sure that there’s a second image of the thing just awaiting you right after the break, still in that same garage that is far, far neater than ours.

Archos Teases G10 XS Tablet With Ultra-Thin Steel Chassis

archos g10 xs

Veteran tablet maker Archos has released a teaser video of a new tablet they’re going to be releasing (we presume) later this year. It’s called the G10 XS (the latest in a series of G tablets) and it has a few differentiating features that may call your name.

As others have noted, the only way for Android tablets to set themselves apart from one another is in design and specs. Archos has found one more that seems to have been mostly neglected: material. Ubergizmo reports that the shell of the G10 series will be made of “paper-thin” steel. Perhaps that’s how they managed to get the thing down to an impressive 7.6mm thick.

Check out the teaser video below.

A little artistic license may have been taken; this isn’t, obviously, a video of a device in real life.

The claim to thinnest tablet out there, of course, is short-lived and doesn’t have much of an effect on user experience past a certain point (do you really need that extra half a millimeter in your bag?) — but Archos isn’t divulging any specs yet. It will, however, ship with Ice Cream Sandwich.

And it also will have a close relationship with a keyboard, with which it will dock or possibly just sync. That puts it on a collision course with another major Android player, Asus, whose Transformer series has had a keyboard as a major feature for some time now.

No availability estimate was given, but the price is said to be between €200 and €400, or around $ 250-500.

Other models were mentioned as well, including some budget and mid-range items. Liliputing snapped a few pictures of promotional materials, if you’re curious.
