AT&T to chase Google Fiber with its own gigabit internet in Austin

Dsc_5453_large

Google Fiber is still barely a blip on the internet landscape, but it’s shaken up the largely stagnant world of wired broadband. Not long after Google announced that its gigabit internet service would be coming to Austin, Texas, AT&T has followed up with its own announcement: it intends to build a competing high-speed fiber optic network that could also reach gigabit speeds. AT&T says the expansion is part of a larger operation called Project VIP, a long-term upgrade program from 2012 that largely involves building out LTE and expanding the reach of its current broadband offerings.

This isn’t the first time AT&T has tried to follow in Google’s footsteps. When the first Fiber markets launched in Kansas City, AT&T and Time Warner started…

Awesome Car Chase (Now With More Bazooka, Jumping Into The Perp’s Car And Kicking Them Out The Door!)

awesome-police-chase.jpg

This is a (presumably old) video of an awesome car chase in some country where the steering wheels are on the right. It looks like it’s straight out of an action movie though because at one point the police start shooting at the perp with a tear gas gun/shotgun/bazooka before an officer decides to just jump into the bed of the truck, climb in through the window, THEN KICK THE DRIVER OUT THE DOOR TO GET RUN OVER BY THE BACK WHEELS. Obviously, I won’t be tempted to even jaywalk if I’m ever there on vacation.

Hit the jump for some quality policing in action.

Chase, Capital One and Barclaycard join as launch partners for Isis mobile payment service

The Isis mobile payment service backed by AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon may have been a bit overshadowed by Google Wallet in recent months, but it’s still on track for a “mid-2012″ trial launch in Austin, Texas and Salt Lake City, Utah, and it’s now gotten a boost from a trio of new financial partners. Chase, Capital One and Barclaycard confirmed today that they’ll each support the NFC-based service and let folks load their credit, debit and prepaid cards into their Isis Mobile Wallet, joining existing partners Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. Unfortunately, any specific launch details beyond that still remain a bit on the light side, with Isis only promising that a national rollout will follow sometime after the initial trial launch.

Iconic Indiana Jones Golden Idol/Boulder Chase Scene Faithfully Recreated As Stop-Motion Short

The title says it all. I just didn’t want to leave this part blank. Actually, I DID want to leave it blank because that would be a first for me but then I chickened out like a giant sissyboy. I swear, I can’t do anything write. “That’s the wrong right.” SEE? I should probably just take a shower and call it a day.

Hit the jump for the worthwhile remake.

Parrot releases AR.Pursuit augmented reality chase game for AR.Drone (video)

Get the hang of your AR.Drone yet? Good, because while flying dangerously close to your little brother or late-night TV show host can be a fun diversion, it looks like things are about to get real. Really real. We’ve just received word that on November 26, AR.Pursuit — the first of hopefully many Augmented Reality games for the drone — will be making its way to the app store. The rules are pretty straightforward: one player pursues the other, attempting to bring him down with virtual machine guns and missiles. Once caught, the players change roles and the pursuit begins anew! That is, until someone gets carried away and sends their air vehicle into a concrete wall or running wood chipper. Game times are variable, from one to nine minutes, and the app will cost you $ 2.99 in the app store. Now all you need is an AR.Drone, and a friend — with an AR.Drone. Video, PR after the break.

Chase iPhone app lets you deposit checks from anywhere

Looks like banking giant Chase is finally getting itself into the 21st century with the latest version of its iPhone app. It allows you to deposit paper checks into your Chase account using an iPhone. All you have to do is take a picture of the front and back of the check, hit a few icons, and you’re done.

This is a major time-saver for people and it’s super useful. You don’t have to make a special trip to the bank anymore just for a deposit. We love that.

Chase Mobile iPhone app update: picture your paycheck deposited, and it’s there

While JPMorgan Chase & Co. certainly isn’t the first bank to do this — USAA has allowed its members to deposit checks by snapspot for just under a year now — it’s definitely the first major public bank to bring this stuff to the mainstream. A recent update to the Chase Mobile iPhone app enables customers to photograph the front and back of checks made out to them and then have it deposited directly into whatever Chase account (with their name on it, obviously) they choose. Better still, the service is completely free of charge, though it’s limited to Apple’s platform at the moment. Too bad you can’t just cut checks to yourself and live the life those goofy TV ads push so hard, but hey, at least you’re one step closer to pretending.
