Everpurse Is A Purse That Charges Your Smartphone, Wire-Free
We ’ ve heard of bags that charge your gadgets– the Powerbag Instant Messenger comes to mind– however none targeted straight at females. That ’ s where the Everpurse can be found in.
It ’ s a Kickstarter project started by married couple Dan and Liz Salcedo. Essentially, you place your phone in a purse, or a clutch insert (which is essentially a smaller bag you placed within your major bag), and it charges your phone on the go. Oh, and it ’ s completely cordless.
It works by making use of the Qi standard for inductive charging of the Everpurse battery. According to co-founder Dan Salcedo, the bag takes about 6 hours on a charging pad to be totally charged, and provides two times the battery life of your iPhone. In other words, when your phone is almost dead, you can pop it in the Everpurse and get it back to a full-charge in no time.
Within the Everpurse itself, there are no wires, however there is a dock. You slip your phone in and gravity looks after the rest, plugging in the phone and getting it charging.
According to Salcedo, the battery and receiver combined weigh just 6 ounces. He additionally discussed that dudes aren ’ t averse to the Murse. As much as 10 percent of Everpurse ’ s Kickstarter orders are originating from guys who would such as a black model to slip into their backpack. Or whatever.
In the future, the powerful (and married) duo would certainly like to create suit jackets and pants that do the same thing. Though, they say that the clothing most likely won ’ t arrive till the Everpurse campaign is closed.

The Volt Buckle Charges Your Phone, Holds Up Your Pants
Talk about convergence, eh? The Volt Buckle is described on its indiegogo fundraising web page as “ The globe ’ s first and just wearable mobile gadget wall charger. ” And as a person that has traveled around the Net a time or two, I can easily vouch for that claim. Never ever in all of my Net days have I seen such a gadget. I wish it.
When worn, the Volt Buckle resembles any sort of ol ’ belt buckle. If funded the tool will certainly ship with black and brownish belts with silver buckles, or for an added $ 15, an anodized black or bronze buckle. However when the need arises, just take off the belt (that can be problem often) and charge a phone with the USB interface. The belt buckle portion also acts as a sort of stand when charging.
The creator explains that men, not being a gender that frequently carriers a carryall, just have pockets to store products and thus frequently leave things at house — like a phone charger. But with the Volt Buckle a charger can easily always be convenient.
The group is aiming to raise $ 60,000 to begin the Volt Buckle ’ s production. Pledge $ 20 and receive a natural leather belt minus the buckle. Step it up to $ 50 and obtain a silver Volt Buckle with the anodized model available with a $ 75 pledge. A bit expensive, yes, however you ’ ll be the life of any sort of party. Girls dig guys with convergence machines around their loins.

ShelfX Vending Fridge automatically charges you for what you take out of it

Store shelves haven’t changed much since the advent of the UPC barcode, but a new company called ShelfX is looking to change that a bit by bringing RFID cards, QR codes, and smart shelves to your supermarket. The first implementation of the technology is the (unimaginatively) titled Vending Fridge, which unlocks after it recognizes your account (containing your payment method) from an RFID card or an iPhone app that’ll scan a QR code on the fridge. Once unlocked, you can peruse the sodas, sandwiches, fruits, or other items in the fridge and remove what you’d like. After closing the fridge it’ll figure out what items were removed (even if you moved stuff around you’ll only be charged for missing items) and it’ll automatically process the…

NVIDIA unleashes GeForce GTX 690 graphics card, loads it with dual Kepler GPUs, charges $1k
Would you look at that? NVIDIA hinted it would be coming today, and it looks like the tease is living up to the hype. The company stormed into the weekend at its Shanghai Game Festival by unleashing its latest offering, the GeForce GTX 690 — and oh yeah, it’s packing two 28nm Kepler GPUs! Trumping the recently released GTX 680 as the “worlds fastest graphics card,” it’s loaded with a whopping 3,072 Cuda cores. The outer frame is made from trivalent chromium-plated aluminum, while you’ll find thixomolded magnesium alloy around the fan for vibration reduction and added cooling. Aiding in cooling even further, the unit also sports a dual vapor chamber and center-mounted fan. It’ll cost you a spendy $ 1,000 to pick up one these puppies come May 3rd, and you’ll likely be tempted to double up — two can run together in SLI as an effective quad-core card. With that said, NVIDIA claims that a single 690 runs 4dB quieter and handles about twice the framerate as a duo of GTX 680s in SLI — impressive, but we’ll reserve judgement until we see it for ourselves. check out the press release after the break if you’d like more information in the meantime (…and yes, it runs Crysis — 2 Ultra to be exact — at 57.8fps, according to NVIDIA).

Apple says e-book price fixing charges ‘simply not true,’ Macmillan also responds
Not that we were expecting Apple and Macmillan to simply fess up and say, “you’re right, totally tried to circumvent the free market,” but both companies have come out swinging pretty hard against the allegations of price fixing. Apple has rejected the charges, calling them “simply not true.” A company spokesman, Tom Neumayr, went so far as to tell Reuters that Cupertino was actually fostering competition by “breaking Amazon’s monopolistic grip on the publishing industry.” John Sargent, the CEO of Macmillan, defended his company’s behavior in blog post, saying the publisher had done nothing illegal and that the concessions sought by the DOJ in settlement negotiations were “too onerous.” It looks like the next step for both is to face off with the US government in court — a daunting task, no matter how large your war chest.

U.S. Files Antitrust Charges Against Apple, Book Publishers (UPDATE)
The U.S. Justice Department just formally charged Apple, along with book publishers, Hachette, HarperCollins, Macmillan and Penguin in regards to e-book pricing. The DoJ alleges that the companies colluded in anticompetitive practices involving pricing and sales. This comes after a year-long investigation into the matter after Apple switched to an “agency” model where they retained a portion of the sale of e-books sold through its platforms. This is said to have resulted in higher prices industry-wide, since the power to set prices rested in the hands of only a few sellers.
Bloomberg reports that several publishers are seeking to settle with the DoJ. Simon & Schuster, Lagardère SCA’s Hachette Book Group and HarperCollins could settle as soon as today. (Update: They just settled) However, Apple and Macmillan reportedly refused to engage in settlement talks, so far denying the claims. This might get ugly.
With e-book sales rising rapidly, the DoJ is seeking to ensure the consumer isn’t seeing unnecessary price increases caused by this so-called agency model employed by Apple. This model lets the publisher–rather than the vendor–set prices, which is why the big five publishers jumped onboard. Apple just asks for 30% of the end sale.
“Traditional” booksellers like Amazon and Barnes & Noble have stuck to the wholesale pricing model, in which they purchase the rights to a book and set their own price. This often stiffs the publishers as the retailers turn bestsellers into loss leaders, causing them to be undervalued in the publisher’s view. But with Apple, the big five can price books how they see fit. Both sides can be effectively argued as pro-consumer.
Even if the DoJ rules against Apple, its agency business model might stay intact. Apple and the publishers would likely simply have to comply with stringent regulations.
Update: Minutes after the initial report hit, Bloomberg is reporting that Simon & Schuster, Lagardère SCA’s Hachette Book Group and HarperCollins just settled with the DoJ over unspecified terms.
